I currently have an HP zd8000 that I am going to sell, because I'm planning on getting a dv9000t with Vista Ultimate so that I can become familiar with the O/S as a skill I need at work.
Anyway, I am going to max the thing out (RAM, HD, Speed), however, I am not sure I want to go the extra $400+ for the HD-DVD drive.
Is the only advantage to this option the ability to watch HD-DVD discs, or is there some other features you get besides video viewing by having this drive? For that price, I could get Office 2007 pro and still save a few bucks.
Anything else I should be looking for?
Thanks!

I don't see a point of having a HD DVD if your going to play it on your lcd screen which really isn't 1080i or 1080p resolution. Unless you watch movies on your HD monitor at home via HDMI out its a waste of money. Wait till HD DVD burners come out , at least then you can record 20-30 gigs of data on one dvd.

I got the HD-DVD didnt have a choice as we dotn get customizable laptops over here. the only thing u can do with this is watch HD-DVDs on it, it isnt a burner and it has no other extra features besides this afaik. so if u think getting office 2007 is worth more than this drive then go for it.
dv9000t - HD-DVD drive - worth it?
