Click here for the CTO models.

Hm. Still no update on the temperature control it seems. I haven't downloaded it myself. Can anyone confirm if the heat and fan settings may have been affected? (I wouldn't think so.) Oh well. If this one doesn't do it, I'm sure we're going to see a couple of Bios updates around Vista SP1, if SP1 itself doesn't help any. I would love to have the latest Bios, but the heat emitted is just crazy.

I was having some heat problems too, the computer seemed to run hot no matter what I was doing. Swapped out my T5500 for a T7200, applied some arctic silver, now my computer runs 10-15 degrees cooler. At full load (encoding) the computer runs at 70 degrees as opposed to 82 with my slower T5500. If only HP applied some quality thermal compound to their processors, then maybe our computers wouldn't run so hot.

I've got a dv9500t and I have not noticed any heat problems. I have my laptop in my living room on a coffee table and it is slightly elevated (about a quarter inch off table) for airflow. I don't leave it on 24/7 but I've been stress testing it by installing and testing every game in my library, so the laptop has been chewing cycles like mad and I've had no problems.

What exactly is getting hot and on what type of surface are you operating on?

the T5500 is also an older processor, so it has less heat managing capabilities

I was referring to the dv9000t series, not the 9500t. As mentioned, you have a different processor.

x0lliex, is applying thermal paste on a laptop an easy thing to do? I have a T7200 as well and the fan is running constantly on the medium level with medium power settings.

only apply thermal paste your self if you know what you are doing (it requires disassembly)
if you are comfortable with opening your laptop, check out this guide by Chaz that tells you how to apply thermal paste: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=60914

I'm sure I could do it, though how comfortable I would be with it would be a little eh. It's putting everything back together that would worry me. I've upgraded both my HDD and my RAM, so I do have a tiny bit of experience, as well as some other upgrades to my old desktop PC. I wonder if there is any kind of service out there that could do it for me.

I updated from f.16 or whatever it was called, though windows went a little crazy, then again I was having wierd issues even before, so I just started it over fresh and so far I noticed that the high pitch whine I had went away, hopefully for good this time, because last time I updated the bios it went away and just came back later.

I did, although I can't really tell a difference between it and F.27 (my old BIOS). Haven't ran on battery yet, though.
