    Hello again,

I have a slight issue with the latching mechanism on this laptop. To begin with, the button itself is hard to press in. Sometimes, when I go to shut the lid, it won't latch shut. Other times, the right-hand latch will catch and the left-hand latch won't. If I leave it shut for a few minutes, it'll eventually latch together completely in both occasions.

It's not something I'm fretting over, and personally I don't care if it gets fixed right away or not. Since I keep it strapped into a Targus case, it stays securely shut anyway. :) However, any tips are appreciated.

If it's terribly annoying and unusual, you might think about calling up HP and seeing if they can do anything about it.

I have a dv9000 with the same latch and I have the same problem with it. It's just plain awkward, poorly designed, doesn't always work and it is hard to open the notebook. I don't like it at all.

Is it a matter of greasing the latch or in some other way making it move smoother?

Many dv9000t have the same problem. The latch was designed poorly

If anyone has a suggestion for this, it'd be great. I contacted HP by e-mail (their online chat wouldn't work with me for some reason). They, of course, wanted me to send it in for repair.

I've figured out that the problem lies in the button itself. Once it's pushed into the laptop, it rubs against something (maybe one of the edges), and it stays resessed into the laptop. Not a lot, mind you, just a little bit, but it's enough for the latch not to catch anymore.

Any suggestions from those that have had problems with their dv9000t?

The latch has to be the biggest flaw in the design of the dv9000. When my laptop is closed I have found that the latch sometime doesn't catch - so in essence it doesn't do anything at all. I don't travel that often so I guess it isn't such a big deal.

Yeah i dont like the latch either. I wished theyd used the same concept like the one on the dv6000

I was (miraculously) able to fix my problem. My problem was that pushing in the latch was fine, but when the latch tried to come back out, it felt like it was sticking on something. I managed to get a card (the thinner, the better, otherwise it'll strip the coating off the card) in between the caes and the latch button and swipe it around some in there. After a number of tries (and a number of cards :-( ), it now successfully comes (almost) all the way back out. What fraction that it doesn't come back out doesn't affect its latching ability, so now I'm a happy camper. :)
