I've a month old dv9000t CTO which has been reformated to XP PRo by my local tech shop. They did a great job and saved me tons of time. Only missing function is my built-in webcam. The Scanners + Cameras in control panel shows a USB camera, says it works fine, but in reality it won't. I have tried every .exe avaialble from HP's site, including the Vista drivers, all to no avail. After installingthem they show in programs from start menu, but cannot "preview graph", i.e., work! I have also searched the reninstall XP PRo discs I ordered from HP for webcam anything..........nothing.

I am hoping someone with a dv-whatever has had success with an XP " downgrade" and gotten their webcam to function and can give me a step by step. It is not critical for my work but it would very nice feature to access.

If successful I will link this thread to the HP forums where many otheres have had this same problem. T.I.A.

That happened to me too. Under Control Panel/System/Hardware I uninstalled the unrecognized hardwares/drivers and rebooted. The laptop recognized and installed the hardware/drivers automatically.

I did the same thing, but when I got it to come on the image was extremely dark and the blue light was extremely bright ??

    Did that happen to you?

    Kanehi, thanks for the reply!!

Well I'll be a s.o.b.............I have done this very manuever, maybe 8 times and this morning after booting up the blue light of success shone upon my not so prettty morning face :))

I used the sp 34746.exe driver off the HP Vista drivers download support site. Investigating inside this file the .inf install info described the driver as XP + Vista compatible. It seems like most things with computers, trying again and again will yield results...........go figure.

Although, so far, when running a test .avi creation file I get no sound. Any hints there?

mb, the dark settings are adjustable via the options>video capture filter off the file bar.

If the recording volume is all the way up and still nothing...

Join the club of silent recordings and complain to HP. There quite a few of us now!
