Is there anyone out there who has this laptop and doesn't have this problem? I ordered my customized dv9000t two days ago and I'm really hoping it wont have this high pitched squeal. I just want to know if it's common with the dv9000t. Maybe the more recently built machines won't have the problem?

Its common across a lot of the pavilion models. You can fix the issue easily enough thoguh by turning on all the usb ports or trying to get rmclock.

Don't tell anyone, but if you do a 3 second Google search and it will take you right to the RMClock website and you can read all about it... ;)

OK - you got me there. Actually - I choose to search the Forum due to better feedback and honest opinions. I also found Notebook Hardware Control. I may check out both...

    Folks,

Don't forget: guys over 30 don't hear as much high frequency sounds as "under 20 crowd".

So when you post - say how old you are.

Me - over 30, no noise.

You're right about that, and I will add that the longer you've been married the more you ( a male) can tune high frequency sounds out ;)

    That is hilarious.

As for the whine, my computer definitely had it. RMclock actually didn't help it at all (I tried various settings found on web-forums). But turning off ALL the USB root hub things did eliminate it at least by about 85% (there is still a slight whine that I think is permanent)... there are different results for different people and/or different machines.

It's kind of irritating that you pay all this money for a decent computer, and then have to find ways to get rid of annoying sounds... Some people may not mind, but seriously, it is really bugged me.

Im over 30 and I heard it on mine. Turning on all USB ports made it go away as well as RMclock. On another note I put a straight copy of Windows XP Pro on it and never had the noise again here either without modding any normally default functions.

Yes I originally ordered pro but dont like all the bloatware and had issues playing Everquest2 where it crashed constantly. I put a normal copy of windows xp pro and it solved all those issues.

I'm 37 and I do not hear it. I've had a hearing test and one of the tests was that buzz that only kids can hear. I was told that my hearing is that of a 20 year old.
