The dv9000t has been a very good laptop (the best Widnows laptop I have owned), but after spending a few days with a friend's MacBook Pro, I'm going to give it a try. It seemed to be an incredible little laptop! His ran both the Apple operating system and Windows (he had Parallels and Win XP2 installed, which appeared to work flawlessly). Overall, the dv9000t has been pretty good, but after 5 months it is starting to act less and less stable. Plus, I keep finding that the preloaded software is mostly teaser stuff. After spending $2k on a laptop, I'm getting tired of the "you must upgrade for $49.99 to use this feature" line. What a gimmick!

Anyway, I'm going to take the plunge on a MacBook Pro (after the August release of the updated MacBooks with Santa Rosa). I'm counting on Parallels with XP2 to allow me to use some of the Windows software I have purchased (Quicken, Office, and a couple of others). Once I've had it for a few weeks, I will be sure to post a comparison review.

Isnt there a serious price difference between the two? I thought the macbook pro with 17" screen was $2000-$2200 while the dv9000t was more along the lines of $1200.

It's people like the OP that have screwed Costco's resturn policy for all of us. If there is nothing wrong with your computer why should you take it back after 5 months jut because your friend has a shinier computer.

now costco policy is three months one month on tv I have owned three hp notebooks and there support sucks. All they no how to do is tell you to update the bios and do a recovery when they can not solve the problem. ( if you can understand them) The dv 6000t the fan runs half the time and kills your battery life. A serious issue with your notebbook and they want you to use there advanced support at $49.99 an issue. You pay 1500.00 for a notebook with a year warranty.and they tell you to use there advanced support for 49.99. Take it back and get what you want.

denmick: are you talking about HP's technical support or Costco's inhouse support?

Return the HP system and get yourself the MacBook Pro ;)

You won't regret it. OS X is so much better than Windows that its worth every extra penny over a Windows PC.

Parallels works wonders. Even though I only have 1GB of RAM on my MacBook, I can run iTunes playing music videos and have Windows XP SP2 up and running with apps inside it going and not feel any kind of speed loss.

The MacBooks are a bit more pricey. I will likely go for the 15" MacBook Pro ($1999) since the 17" HP was a bit large and the 17" MacBook Pro goes for around $2,500. Despite the price difference, when it came down to it for it for me, the MacBook just seems so much more stable and useful as a home computer. And if it can run some of my Windows programs too, that's even better. We'll see!

I switched from mac back to Windows a few months ago. After using OS X a few months I got over my apple fanboyism and realized that OS X is no better than XP/Vista because each has its benefits and weaknesses.

As x0lliex said, returning the computer is just abusing Costco's generous return policy.

Satisfaction guaranteed. That's why I love Costco! They set the policy and it's generous for a reason. Even at the current 90 days it's great. BTW, everything else at the store (other than electonics) is still lifetime return, no questions asked. It's a great strategy and they're making plenty of money with their awesome customer service focus.

Yes, as long as you purchased the laptop (or other heavy electronic) before they changed the policy in January or February.

They keep track of EVERYTHING a member buys and returns (not just the 6-month returns), as do other retailers and your credit card company. It's very valuable marketing information.

Costco's policy on returns is on the web site. 90 days for computers and electronics. I guess they figured out that they're losing revenue from people who claim their merchandise is broken and is the cheapest way of upgrading, cameras and computers alike. I see people returning HDTVs and what nots specially after the holidays and specially after a big game! People took advantage of this flaw of unlimited time return policy
