When configuring a system there are three options....

    1) the regular xga brightview (1440 X 900)

    2) WSXGA (Higher resolution)

    3) xga + ultrabrite (This option costs the most)

just because option #2 has higher resolution does it mean that it'll look better than option 3? afaik higher resolution just gives you more space making things smaller right?

i've been reading threads where people were having dull screen issues with the 2000 series.....i checked out a regular xga brightview at the stores and it looked terribly dull...there was no sweet spot that made it look even close to average..

another thing to note is that another user bought the ultrabrite view and said it was an LPL.....does this mean that for the 9000 series there is no QDS option?

basically im trying to figure out what would look the best.....because is the wsxga option is possibly made by qds, then you can have a bright screen plus the resolution..

Alright mate I'll try and help you out here.

    Basically there are the following screen manufacturers that the HP 2000-9000 Series come with;

    QDS- Quantas

    LPL- LG Phillips

    AUO- AU Optitronics

    SEC- Very bad screen

I may be forgetting one but whatever those are the main 4, if you get an HP notebook 90% of the time it will be a LPL, QDS, or an AUO screen. You cannot control what screen you get, and nor can the HP technicians. It's luck of the draw period.

When choosing between those 3 screens, the WXGA is perfectly fine for smaller screens but gross on a 17" model. The WSXGA would suck because there isn't that big of a difference in quality and it makes everything a lot smaller.

If I were you, I would get the WXGA+ screen, it's a pimped out version of the WXGA and it has Dual-Lamp technology which means obviously that it has 2 lamps as opposed to one. In my opinion this would be the best option, and if you get it and are not happy with it, you could always just return the notebook.

Hope this helps some and good luck.

Hah, almost forgot to mention, I have a 15.4" LPL WXGA BrightView Screen and it's amazing with Hi-Def movies and if the desktop were any smaller I wouldn't like it.

I had a 17 incher with the 1680x1050 and it was perfect.
1440x900 is too big for a 17 incher

your wxsga.....can you verify who makes the display?....like i said i saw the xga brightview in the stores and it was very very dim.......

so with that said would your screen just have more resolution with the same level of brightness as the xga brightview?

1: can you verify who makes the display? = No, I don't have the dv8000t anymore.

2: so with that said would your screen just have more resolution with the same level of brightness as the xga brightview = YES

Is "Brightview" HP's term for the glossy screen? Are any of these options matte?

I ruled out buying one of these because I can't stand glossy screens. If they offer matte, I'll reconsider. Thanks for any info...

Yes, all the options for the dv9000t screens are Brightview which are all glossy screens. Consider the business line 17" if you want matte screens.
