Hey guys, I got a sort of random question. I use my laptop as a music machine alot (I have a great external ExpressCard / USB sound system) but I want to be able to turn off my screen only, since it can get distracting when I'm writing reports for english (I'm in high school). Does anyone knkow a solution to this? It seems pretty simple but I've been fiddling around for a bit and haven't found a solution!

    Thanks in advance!

BTW any fellow seattlites around.. STP FTW!!!

Go into your power settings in the Control Panel and you can configure it however you like.

yeah power settings let u turn off the monitor after x minutes and such

u cud also close your laptop and it can continue to run, all u gotta do is configure the close lid option to not go into standby or hibernate when u do that so it keeps running.

I suppose you could use the Fn +F4 or whatever key combination to switch it from monitor to external vga / s-video port too. Probably wouldn't help your juice consumption though still your still running a video output.

On my laptop, (hp dv8320us) there's a small button on the upper left corner of the keyboard. When you close the lid, the screen presses that button and shuts off. You can put something on that button to shut off the screen without closing the lid.

Or you could just write your reports on the laptop... ;)
