Before I went to bed last night, I shut my computer (dv9000z), which normally makes it go into sleep mode. Well, this morning I woke up to a VERY loud, annoying beeping sound. It sounded like an alarm going off. It was a constant ringing noise, with a series of three loud beeps: It would beep three times, not beep for a second, and beep three more times; all while it was ringing annoyingly and constantly. I got up and realized it was my computer. Great… One more problem to add to this horrible machine. Anyway, I opened my computer; the screen was black, but the blue power light was on. The screen wouldn’t do anything, and I tried shutting the computer off by holding down the power button for a long time, but nothing would work. Finally, I took the battery out, and the noise stopped. Now everything is working fine (if you don’t count the blinking/dead Quick Launch buttons, the very annoying loud fan, the keyboard issues, and the optical drive that refuses to open).

Have any of you experienced this problem? If so, do you have any suggestions? If you haven’t, do you recommended anything?

I don’t know what to do. I guess I’ll call HP again, for the fifth time. I doubt they will be helpful, because they never are. This computer is less than two months old, and it’s the worst machine I’ve ever had. I paid over $2000.00 dollars for this computer, and I feel like it's a waste of money. It’s too late to get my money back, so I have no idea what to do.

If I had to guess I'd say that the battery wasn't charging and the alarm was warning you that the notebook was about to completely turn off, losing your suspend-to-RAM information. When you tried to restart the computer that finished off the battery.

See if that gives you any ideas. If the battery isn't charging properly it's likely a motherboard issue, which is a very good excuse to send it back to HP for a replacement. Or you just forgot to plug the notebook in before you went to bed...

You should check the "Always show icon on the taskbar" checkbox in Control Panel | Power Options | Advanced tab. I just noticed that even when the blue light around the power jack is lit up the jack isn't necessarily plugged in all the way. That checkbox isn't selected by default.

And get that BIOS update if you don't have it already. My dv9008us already had it installed.

    Yes.

    I purchased a dv9000z for $2500+ fully loaded back in August 2006.
Three days after getting it I had the exact problem you mentioned.

We had it powered off, we were sleeping. It went off with all sorts of beeping sounds like what comes from the touch strip on the top above the keyboard. Nothing would power it down or off. We had to remove the battery to get it to stop.

It worked fine after that for 2 months. Now we are having other problems with it locking up. HP service has it now.

Any feedback on if the update mentioned above resolved your issues?

They HP gave up on it and gave me a dv900t that now and always has had GPU over heating issues. do search on dv9000t over heat GPU.

I was albe to fix the dv9000z by installing screws in the left hinge that they left out. It fixed the hinge, fixed the not hybernation problem, and fixed the would not boot and glitch issues. It did not fix the USB port issue but the rest works. But the new dv9000t still overheats after they replaced the system board.

The BEEPing issue only happened once or twice on the dv9000z. Has not happened on the dv9000t. Just fixed it buy removing battery and power and then applying power to reboot.
