I have a 320gb second hard drive for the hp pavilion dv9010us machine, but the machine hangs during bootup. when I disconnect the second drive it boots just fine. I see no jumpers on the drives to make one a slave and one the master. the only thing I noticed the factory drive is labeled AT and the second is labeled ATA. however they were both refered to as SATA. any advice would great.

Sorry about not writing back sooner, but I expected at least one expert to write to you by now. I am not an expert, but have a little experience and perhaps I can help you troubleshoot it.
Did you have to attach an adapter to the SATA drive to connect it in the drivebay? -
Yes I had to buy it separate. I can enter setup and the two hardrives are connected. I got desperate, I created a set of restore dvds. put only the 320g drive in the first bay and used the restore dvds to format and install windows XP systemfiles on it. I started thinking since the new drive comes unformated maybe the machine cannot boot up with it installed. after I did this the computer booted with the new drive as a master and the old drive as a slave. I tried to put the old drive as master againg but is still kept freezing. anyway I just have to go thru the prosses of taking all the files I want from the old drive into the new one, then erase the partition of the old drive and format it as one 120g unit. I still can't figure out why I couldn't use my old drive as a master and new one as a slave, they have no jumpers on them to set them. now I have to find some software that will format my old hard drive and erase the restore partition and use it as one drive.
Thanks for your responce, since no one was anwering my question I figured no one had an answer. -
Great to hear you sorted things out. If you have Partition Magic or Acronis you will be able to delete the restore partition and reformat the drive.
