Bought a dv9260us last weekend. Decent machine. Needed it to replace an old Dell that was literally falling apart (a few years after we bought it).![]()
Anyway, the machine comes preloaded with Vista Ultimate, which is a nice gesture, but honestly is not something I want to even approach for the next 18-24 months, so I'm transferring XP Pro from the Dell to the HP.
In order to install XP from a non-sliptstreamed XP install disk, I simply disabled SATA in the BIOS. Installed LAN drivers, GeForce 7600 drivers, etc. from hp.com (searched for dv9000 CTO drivers for XP). Installed 945 chipset drivers from intel.com. Windows reports the "Primary IDE Channel" running at UDMA 5 (ATA100) for both devices (machine comes with 2x 5400 RPM drives).
When installed the 945 chipset drivers direct from Intel that created a device entry under the "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers" device section called "Intel <something> SATA controller". So, there's a SATA controller driver installed, but whenever I re-enable SATA in the BIOS I get a bluescreen on boot. Obviously, I'm missing something.
I've tried the trick of updating the "Primary IDE Channel" driver through the dev manager "Update Driver" and pointing at SATA drivers downloaded from here:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1842189&lang=en
(the SATA AHCI package is an EXE that creates a floppy, so I just unpacked those driver files using WinImage).
No god on SATA. I know the HDDs can't possibly transfer above 100 MB/s anyway, but... anybody have pointers or clues as to how to enable SATA in XP on this machine?
Thanks!
dv9260us, XP Pro, and SATA drivers???
