Hi everyone,
I purchased a dv9500 just after in was released here in Canada. It has seen a fair bit of use to date. One thing that really is staring to drive me crazy is a "creaking" noise that I am pretty sure is created by the flexing or expansion/contraction due to heating/cooling cycles of the case.
If I apply a slight amount of pressure to the left palm-rest, it sounds just like I am walking across an old hardwood floor. This is the only spot that will do this.
It's very annoying because it constantly happens as I type. Has anyone else experienced this?
-
no i dont have that problem
-
The heat problem on the current Pavilion series has first lead to an overall hot computer, but in the long run, I definitely see some structural issues that it may lead to. Hopefully HP will address this in their next iteration.
-
Do you guys think this is grounds for a warranty claim? Or do you think I will be out of luck? I know that this problem does not render the computer useless, but it is really annoying and can be heard whenever I type unless my hands do not touch any part of the palm rest (only the keys). It really believes me to believe the fit/finish on these machines is not up to par.
-
you can try lodge it in as a warranty claim. Chances are they will try fix it and fail costing you alot of time because their really slow. There was another member here that had the same problems, he sent it in for repair and all hp did was replace a part that didnt even solve it
-
that other member would be me.
ill be calling hp tomorrow and ask for the replacement..
if that does not work out, send it for 2nd repair..
either way, i would be left without my laptop for anther week or so.. -
I hope they will replace the LCD and at least attempt to fix the case. -
just what i expected...
so i called hp customer service and got connected to somebody in india or something..
i told him i do not want to go for the repair again and asked for the replacement
he said he has to report it to a case manager and he will call me with in
a day or two..
of course, i am not able to call a case manager directly and talk this out..
no disappointment as this was was expected;; -
-
heres what happened
the case manager never called
so i called their customer service and was able to get to a case manager
after 20 minutes of waiting.
the manager basically said the same thing. the 1 year warranty i have is
not for the replacement, it is repair only;;
she wanted me to send it in for 2nd repair and if that does not solve the
problem, give her a call back and go from there
i do not know what to say at this point, well see how it goes... -
Same problem here. This is my second 9500 since the lcd wasn't right on the first one. Unfortunately the first one didn't creak, but the lcd issue was worse than the creak. I'll watch this thread for a solution. I will try at some point to adjust the screws maybe loosen the screw under the hard drive then retighten the corner case screws. Mine is the worst in front of the touchpad to the wireless button.
-
-
I haven't tried it yet, but have you tried loosening the screw under the hard drive as well as the outside corners then tighten the outside corners and then the hard drive screw.
-
Yeah I tried that. Doesn't seem to make a difference once the screws are snugged back up again, no matter the order of tightening the screws.
This creaking is VERY annoying... -
It seems that somehow the case of the dv9500t has a design flaw...
I tried to get the h/d's out but the are stuck in there too tight...no way I can get them out...except may break them... I want to put 2x 200gb 7200rpm in there...
but I decided to return the laptop and look for something else with better quality -
Ok...being anal retentive I have solved my creaking. I used the automotive interior solution...FELT. I placed a thin strip of felt across the headphone/mic jacks under the top cover. It was about 3/16-1/4 wide and roughly the length of the jacks. That solved the creaking in front of the touchpad, but it still creaked by the hole for the latch. There is a pretty good size void under that latch hole so not a lot of options there but a very small piece of felt pushed down in the slot where the large black tab on the cover just to the right of the wireless button fits down into the base helped. About 90% of the creak is gone. If you push down right in front of the latch there is a little creak. I may just need a little more felt in that slot. Good Luck.
pgifish-as for the harddrive a small flat head screw driver under the shiny metal tabs toward the outside of the harddrive and pry carefully up. They just come straight up at that end. -
mine does that slightly but it doesnt bother me if the laptop is functional then its fine
-
-
No...none. Can't even tell it is there. All it is really doing is minimizing flex at those points. There is alread a cushion in front of the touchpad so they tried to compensate for the design. Some cases might just be better fitting than others.
-
just great. mine was supposed to ship by 12/3
and they just postponed it to 12/12 -
okay, i just got it back today.
there is no more rattling noise when i type but it still rattles and
rings around the right-below area, that is if i tap my finger on it.
i guess it is supposed to be secondary hard drive bay but i do not have
second hard. when i opened it, there was something installed in there
so i am guessing it is 8600gs card??
i am thinking of sending it for another repair or replacement if thats possible
am i being crazy here? those of you with 8600gs or second hard drive,
does it rattle or ring at all when you tap your finger on the right-below surface??
let me know, i am going crazy over here;;
thanks -
If you are talking about the right hand side toward the stickers, mine did that too. My extra hard drive door didn't fit perfectly. It wasn't visibly off but when you tapped it clicked. A little felt under the edge of the extra hard drive door fix it. I also have the 8600gs but didn't think this has anything to do with it.
-
i talked to one of the case managers and he is getting me the replacement.
he is also upgrading memory to 2gb and giving me the webcam and high capacity battery which i previously did not have
i do not know if i am happy about all this, i am just glad it is over. -
