I may have to replace my fan assembly for a dv9500. There are 2 different parts, one for discrete video system memory and one for UMA type memory. Any suggestions on how to determine the type I have? I have had no luck finding it in the device manager. Thank you.

What kind of video card do you have?
    Intel x3100 = Uma type
    8400m gs = discrete video
    8600m gs = discrete video
    The memory ammount dosent matter.

Please give us full configuration of your system. If you have a nvidia GPU, most probably you will have both discrete and UMA (Unified Memory Architecture - shared from system memory). In my case my GPU has 128 MB discrete memory which it uses during normal processing. When it is in need of more memory it is allowed upto 766 MB of memory from system RAM (UMA).

You can find your discrete and total memory info by right clicking on desktop>personalize>display settings>advanced settings>adapter tab. (for windows vista)

Let me also recommend you to add your system configuration in your signature as we can diagnose your issue more efficiently.

It means that Your 8600 mGS comes with 256 MB attached the motherboard (soldered). And it can take upto 1023 MB from ur RAM should the need arise. So u have got both UMA and Discrete memory.
