Hi all, a newbie to the forum and just bought a dv9500 laptop based on the discussions on this forum so thanks to all for being so informative.

I bought the dv9500 with 1 GB of RAM with the intention of upgrading with more aftermarket RAM. I have the 32-bit Vista Home Premium so it would only recognize 3 GB of RAM.

-Does anyone know if dv9500 supports dual-channel? If yes then I will go with 2 GB kit (2GB x 2), if no I will go with 3 GB (2GB x 1 plus 1GB x 1) for more RAM.

-Although the Santa Rosa platform supports 800mhz FSB, the dv9500 came with PC2-5300 667mhz RAM. Has anyone tried PC2-6400 that is 800mhz RAM? EXPENSIVE!

im pretty sure dv9500 does do dual channel...... i would go for the 667mhz i remmber reading somewhere that on the hp notebooks the 800mhz are useless.. i could be wrong of course......and there way expensive.....

    Comments that might help:

Santa Rosa does not support 800MHz RAM...it will downclock to 667 anyway.
The dv9500 is dual channel, as are all Intel based PCs if you have two of the same modules installed.

Yeah but not just HP notebooks but all Santa Rosa based systems support memory only upto 667MHz. Its a limitation of the chipset ( link)

Your right, sorry for the misinformation. I just happened to be at the Crucial site at the time.

I read the same thing in the Crucial website!

I wonder in real-life usage if dual channel makes a notable difference?

Would having 3GB of RAM derive more benefit than dual channel?

I have 3GB running in single-channel, and Vista's WEI gives me a higher score than 2GB in dual-channel. Of course we all know how reliable WEI is. ;)

Did you feel a noticeable improvement when you went from 2GB to 3GB?

    Hi guys...memory again...
I have purchased 2x1GB lines of 667MHz PC-5300 DDR2 for my new dv9500 (Santa Rosa T7300). Have put it in and...laptop hangs right after startup screen and restarts.
After that I've tried to put it in my other dv9000 (T2250) with 533MHz bus and memory works just fine without any problems.
So I am thinking what's going on...
Here are memories from both laptops (originally installed):
    Left: dv9500 T7300 Right: dv9000 T2250
Can someone tell the difference between these two? How come they both work fine in dv9000 and dv9500? And that from NewEgg does not work in dv9500? I am puzzled...

After searching web, I have found that both memories installed in dv9000 (533MHz) and dv9500 (667MHz) are identical and are 667MHz lines as part numbers say so by HP catalogue. But why in this world the memory I have bought from newegg (mentioned in previous post) works fine with dv9000 (533MHz) and does not work with dv9500 (667MHz).
All the labels on memory modules and package show 667MHz. Can it be really just 533MHz instead of what written on it?
