Hello all, great site , helped a great deal when choosing my laptop
    brand new dv9500t intel 2.2gz 4mb cache, 2g ram
just got it yesterday in process of removing the crap - bloat

but my download speed is extremly slow -
3hrs to download free avg antivirus!!! i just gave up
msn messenger is downloading for almost an hour now
internet speed is high, road runner thru time warner
but the internet is running kind of slow
My old dell inspiron 1150 i just retired her, never gave me this download trouble

is this normal in the beginning as the computer 'gets up to speed' so to speak
Its frustrating to say the least

This shouldn't be an issue. Usually slow internet connections are due to either a faulty wireless card, slow internet speed in general from your ISP, bad connectivity spot, etc., generally the computer doesnt have anything to do with download speeds.

Antivirus, Firewalls and such are critical, so for now, plug your computer into the router via an ethernet cable and download and install those.

As for wireless connectivity, you could try to change the wireless channel on your router until you find a good one. Usually this helps.

Have you checked the signal strength?

You sure you configured your laptop properly to connect to your WiFi/Lan? Double check your settings and device manager for any hardware conflicts.

    thanks for the reponses
im connected to my wireless router , signal strength says 'excellent',
    at 11mbps
on the wireless connection staus page status it says-
    IPv4 connectivity: internet
    Ipv6 connectivity: limited

I dont know what this means??

in the process of downloading avg again, its quicker this time but its still taking 10mins so farwith only 40% downloaded, a lot slower than my last comp,
and even msn messenger wouldnt download properly eventually got to 99% and got stuck!

Shut off Ipv6 (its under network properties), just uncheck the box and hit OK. You probably wont need to reset your PC but I'd do it just to clear out any issues. After you shut off Ipv6 test your connectivity again and see if that cleared it up.

Start > Control Panel > View Network Status/Tasks > Manage Wireless Networks (on the left side) > Select Adapter Properties > Then uncheck Ipv6 and hit OK.

I had the same slow download speed when I first got my 9500t. Tried everything to get it to speed up. I didn't think it had anything to do with the router because my other laptop had good speeds. When connected wired directly to the router speeds were good.
I did a hard reset on the router to reset to default configuration, entered in appropriate info and all of a sudden I had good wireless speeds. I have no idea why this worked becaused I entered in basically all of the same settings back into the router.
