A question for all you 9500 owners; Is your screen refresh rate stuck at 59hz? Mine is and its lame. Also, does anyone know how to change it?

    What problems are you having?

You aren't comparing the figure to a CRT refresh rate, are you?

A CRT has phosphors that dim, thus needing a quick refresh rate to combat flickering. Whereas an LCD's pixels remain in a lit or dark state until changed by the need to change the image displayed, and only if needed at each refresh interval. Any possible flicker at 59 hz would be the function of either the LCD response time or the ability of the graphics card to maintain an adequate frame rate, but not the refresh.

No no, im not comparing crt to lcd. The problem that I'm having is that I cant play certain games because they require 60hz refresh rate and my screen is 59hz.

i don't see how this is really a problem, but mine is at 60hz, i don't know why, that's just the way it's always been

EDIT: maybe this has to do with the screen you got, i got the 1440x900 with Bright View, what one did you get?

this is stupid. is the high resolution limiting the refresh rate or is hp just lame? im betting its the latter.

That is weird, lots of LCD's use 59hz with no problems. It's not a physical limit of the refresh rate of the screen or anything as LCD's don't use a "refresh rate" really. Could be a driver issue where you might be able to force using another one.

I'll have to look at my desktop and see whats happening their.

Hey, guys I'm having the same issue with my 9500T. The only reason I got the dang this is to play BF2, and I can't. Come on, some of you brainiacs in here must be able to figure this one out. I mean if the game plays fine on an external, there's got to be a way to adjust the refresh rate to 60Hz! Help anyone please. I have a $2000 laptop that wont play my game.

    Thanks

Ok, everybody that is having problems post your screen specs, aka resolution, brightview or ultra-brightview, so we can get a better understanding of whether its all the screens, or just the ones with the 1600 v1050 resolution.

Not sure if the compatibility is the same for Notebooks as it is for desktops, but give this a shot. Refresh Lock, I used to use it on my desktop.

If that really is the case that is ridiculous on HP's part to sell a laptop that doesn't have a refresh rate of 60 hertz.

any laptop with a 1680 1050 8600m 256 from hp has 59hz, this problem has been addressed long time ago, there is no solution except to hook it up to an external monitor thats what I did :)

but its ridicilius higher resolution should have higher hz. so its better to buy an 1400X900 resoluton then 1680x1050...

HI, guys! as you can see i'm new here..please, i need your help!
I bought recently a dv9500t with 1680x1050 display resolution and it has a refresh rate of 59 Hz. i do not have it yet in my posesion, i will receive it soon from a friend who ordered it for me.
I need an advice on how to proceed for unlocking the refresh rate, in case that's possible! any of you with the same problem had any luck in this operation?
I saw in an earlier post a link to a program that's suppose to unlock the refresh rate..it's working or not?

I have only 2 weeks left to return it, and I don't know what to do..keep it or send it back and ask for my money back? return can be the only way, because there's no time for a new one.
There are other problems except the fact that it cannot run games that need 60 Hz? I probably won't play at all, but who knows..

Again, I want to know for sure, it's a software issue that can be fixed with a driver update or it's a hardware issue that can or cannot be fixed?
Any advice, explanation, support will be more than welcome!

Best regards and sorry for my poor english, Alex!

Two out of three of my 9500T's 1680x1050x8600mx256 shows 60hz, the other shows 59mz.

They run exact clones of the hard drive. Only the serial numbers and machine named have changed to protect the innocient.

The one that shows 59hz has a T7500 cpu.

    A couple of possibilities:

    1) Different panel manufactures?

    2) Rounding error in calculating and displaying the refresh?

Thanks Joe for your quick reply! So there's no solution in the end.. I'm disappointed, I was hoping in one! only new games are not playable or even old ones (like nfs mw, hl2 for example)? Which games you cannot run, if you tried of course? With all said...the problem with the frame rate affects you, any other problem?

Do you guys know if it can be exchanged with another one but without the frame rate issue, i mean is a sufficient reason for the seller?

It was bought from costco...will they accept changing the display only?I'm thinking like this just because it's a CTO model, and i don't have time to wait for another custom build notebook. I live in Europe and the friend who will bring me the notebook is leaving USA soon, and that's the big problem!

    Thanks in advance, Alex

I bought a dv9500t which is "supposed" to have 1680x1050 resolution. I paid extra and the box also says WXSGA+ Briteview. Alas, in my Nvidia settings I can only go up to 1440x900, which is very very disappointing. Any ideas what I need to do to get to 1680x1050? Did I just pay for something I didn't receive?
    Here is my setup:
    HP DV9500T
    Windows Vista Home Premium 32
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 (2.4GHz/4MB L2Cache)
    17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050) <== NOT??
    4GB DDR2 System Memory
    512MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
    HP Imprint +Webcam
    Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Network
120GB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive

Ok people i got somewhere with this. The solution might not be pleasant for some. After I got my dv9500t, the first thing i did was use mujjuman's and hackez's guide + drivers to install Windows XP (thank you guys for the great job). I wasn't playing BF2 at the time so I didn't pay close attetion to the resolution, until a week ago when i got BF2. Long story short, I updated my graphics driver from the one in Driver Pack 1.02 to the one in Driver Pack 1.10. That's when my problems started. I did some experimenting, and found that whilst using the the older driver I had 3 refresh rates to choose from: 58, 59 and 60Hz. Which is a blessing to all you gamers out there if you ask me (I know it was for me). Today, some stupid idea came to my head to install Vista back on my laptop. Having the refresh rate problem in mind, I downloaded some older Foreceware drivers (the ones in DP 1.02 are 164.76), but didn't have any luck installing them (it says the drivers don't support my HW, prob because its Mobile....) So, if anyone has luck finding an older forceware for Mobile nVidia cards, try it out. I also tried the drivers provided by HP on their web page but those are worth jack and also don't fix anything....

Conclution: Switch to Windows XP if you can, and use the older drivers.

    For reference my setup:

    C2D T7500 2.2Ghz
    2x1024Mb RAM
    nVidia 8600M GS w/ 256Mb (dedicated) 512Mb (shared) 1680x1050
    2x 100Gb SATA Drive W 7.200RPM

P.S. please do PM me if you find a older forceware driver for Vista that works with Vista. THX.

    -Mvtt

EDIT: Something just hit me. I'm back with Windows XP agian, and i noticed that in the Monitor tab in "advanced video settings" lists the display as 'Default Display' as opposed to "Generic PnP monitor" under Vista. Maybe it would be enough to simply uninstall the monitor driver while in Vista ?? Please do try that and give feedback. Thx
