I've had a zd8000 for a couple years and have been thinking about upgrading. I've been pretty happy with this PC so I'm alright going with hp again.. but I really don't have much of a desire to upgrade to vista just yet.

My question, is anyone running this machine with Vista? WIll the quickplay feature still work?

I would say with a machine that is two years old I would stay away from Vista. That is not to say your machine won't run it granted you have at least 1GB (2GB would be best) of RAM to run it.

Vista still has many bugs and quirks to it. If you like the Vista Experience yet like the stability of XP there are many themes you can get that modifies XP to give a very reasonable look-a-like to Vista.

Wow - Sorry. I totally forgot to put a paragraph in there!

I'm considering purchasing the dv9500t HP model and want to avoid Vista till at least SP1

Will running MCE 2005 'cause problems with any of the laptop's functionality?

I am not sure about the Nvidia 8 series driver, but if you ever order DV9500t with just the Intel GM965, take a look at this here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125663

cliff note: HP provides no support for XP yet (i hope).

vista will run decently even with just GM965. But XP feels notably faster in DV9500. I heard that some Vista fans got their productivity increased just by watching the amazing eye candies like Aero glass and Flip 3D etc. Maybe I am old-school so I am happier using the "pathetic-antique-legacy-outdated" XP for better experience. :D

Even though they don't list them out but there are drivers available from different HP laptops that you can use in DV9500t. BUT, no compatible graphic driver for XP from HP or Intel (again I dunno about Nvidia 8). There is another thread about this DIY:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125539&page=3

if you (or anyone) need help for the XP graphic driver please PM me.

When downgrading to XP the only problem I had is the quickplay. I still can't get it to work

If follow the instructions that a lot of people posted here about going from Vista to XP, you will not have any problems, I have both OS on my dv6500t and everything is working just fine.
