Every since we got our dv9500t notebook its been locking up. The mouse stops working, both external and touchpad mouse. So, I have to reboot to get them back working. Anyone know whats happening and if there is a solution? It seems to be happening more and more often.

Also sometimes when closing and reopening the notebook the next morning, the screen will be black? The screen normally shuts off when closed and when I reopen sometimes it doesn't come back up ??

As to the first question, all I can say is keep your drivers updated.

As to the second question, is it just going to Standby or Sleep mode?

At first I thought it sounded like a hardware problem, but after you said you restarted the computer and the parts would work again that makes me think it is a software issue. A few more details would be very helpful:

-Have all the parts been working on and off since you got the computer?

-Is it only the mouse that stops working?

-Do the parts stop working after you close your laptop?
-It might be that there is a glitch when your computer returns from hibernate mode when you close the laptop without shutting it off. It could be that the drivers and software aren't reloading properly after the computer turns back on.

-Does the screen only shutoff and not turn back on when you close the laptop and then open it?
-Basically when you close your laptop without turning it off it will go into Hibernate mode. Hibernate mode will store everything that is loaded into RAM on the HDD so when the computer boots back up, the files are then reloaded into RAM and it's as if you never shut it down. When this happens the entire laptop will shut off and then you have to hit the power button to turn it back on. So it seems that this isn't a problem, but you just haven't experienced this feature yet, that's if I'm understanding it right.

-Are you running any specific programs or utilities when the hardware starts malfunctioning?

Just give us as many details you can about the problems and any programs you have running in the background when the problems happen.

This problem has been happening ever since we got the laptop.

The locking of mouse etc does not happen after opening laptop. It happens intermittently and no way to tell when its going to happen. Only thing usually open is internet browser and email at most. It can happen after not using the laptop for several hours or even a few minutes after I've just used a program or typed etc.

As for if just mouse stops working, everything basically locks. Keyboard doesn't work, can't ctrl/alt/delete etc.

The screen won't come back on after its been closed overnight or for several hours. Sometimes it comes back just fine and sometimes not.

We have the laptop set for no hibernation or sleep or turning off, only if we shut down manually. So, basically when we close laptop at night the screen turns off like normal.

well i have the dv9500t too, and since day one i have never had a problem like this. i have used external and the mouse pad a lot too. if i where you i would check the hp website for new updates for the bios and check for vista updates. if that dosnt work i would call hp about it and if your under warrenty get it fixed...

and to check for hp and vista updates...
1.) click start and in the search box search update.
2.)then click windows updates then click check for updates.
(then for hp updates search update again in the start muen, there is a program called hp update which will check for updates for your laptop)
