I've done a fresh and clean dual-boot install of both WinXP (32-bit) and Vista (64-bit). Everything works great, except the screens goes blank after 5-10 minutes. Doesn't matter what programs or games I'm running. The only way to get the screen back is to close & open lid or reboot.

Happens with either HP or newer Nvidia drivers, in both WinXP and Vista. Running an 8600GM.

Sounds like a hardware problem. Any ideas before I have to send it to HP?

have you tried the laptopvideo2go.com drivers?
i find that their (non-beta) versions of the drivers are the most stable
