Anyone else have problems with synaptics drivers on vista? I have tried the latest drivers from HP's site(install but no mouse function at all), the previous drivers 9.1.11 that work but no advanced functions like palmcheck, and the latest drivers from synaptics sight 10.0.1.8 or something(no function at all). Odd thing under mouse properties for 9.1.11 driver is that the device settings says wheel mouse on ps2 port. I really need palmcheck because I constantly hit the touchpad with my left hand while typing. It is driving me crazy.
-
Have you tried using your native drivers in the SWsetup folder?
I never installed synaptics again after i did a clean install. It annoys me actually and i dont like the side scroller so i just omitted it -
I believe you can shut off the side scroller. I will have to check my USB drive for the SWsetup folder but I assume it is one of the two available off HP's website. I just keep hitting the touchpad with my left palm.

Anyone else have problems with latest synaptics drivers?
-
Are you sure you have a synaptics touchpad and not a ALPS touchpad?
-
Did they put Alps in the dv9500t's? The HP site only shows synaptics.
-
I know this isn't a sexy topic, but someone please help.
-
Sorry cant really help you.. all i can say is try a different dv models Synaptics driver for different versions.
Also try the ALPS drive jsut incase they accidentally put an ALPS touchpad since some of the synaptics drivers dont work at all -
Looks like almost all dv95xx's use synaptics drivers...
dv 95xx synaptics drivers -
I know I just want someone with a 9500 to tell me what driver they are using and if it has Palmcheck. I can't get the 10.0.3.x driver to work on my 9500 only the 9.1.11 driver works but it doesn't have palmcheck. UGGGGHHHHH!
-
I assumed mine came with a synaptics pad like my old dv2000, turns out it came with an ALPS pad
-
Flipfire-HP driver website shows that the 9500 has the synaptics. I know it is a synaptics. I am really looking for people with 9500s. thanks for your time.
-
Theres only 3 drivers i can find. The latest one from synaptics 10.1.8. Try troubleshooting with the 10.1.8 because this should work.
and 2 from the hp website which you probably already seen and tried
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=au&dlc=en&product=3347934&os=2093&lang=en -
you can try here:
http://www.synaptics.com/support/drive.cfm -
All 10.x.x.x drivers don't seem to work. The 9.x versions don't have the advanced features but install. It seems like the driver is pointing at the generic msft driver info vs. the synaptics. I can't really troubleshoot the 10.1.8 because it just won't work at all. The device settings page shows no devices.
-
-
Its possible they haven't implemented those options for vista yet...
-
That is why i am hoping someone with a 9500 and vista will pipe in. Or a synaptics and vista....This is so frustrating.
-
Are you uninstalling your touchpad in device manager before you install the drivers?
-
I have uninstalled the software from programs as well as drivers. It really seems as if the generic ps2 drivers are being used by the synaptics software.
-
I mean, uninstall the device. So it isn't in your device manager anymore. Install the drivers, then in device manager, 'scan for hardware changes'.
-
Yes I have tried every variation. Vista finds it as a standard ps2 compatible mouse. After that the 9.x software works but no advanced features and the 10.x just doesn't work.
-
you can try these things as well....
1: do a forced chipset device driver install.
example: in run box type.. INF_AllOS_8.4.0.1016_PV_Intel.exe /overall
this was for my computer. i had the same issue with my bluetooth mouse.
2: click add hardware under control panel
3: click next
4: install hardware manually
5: click show all devices
6: click have disk
7: click browse
8:go to your drivers folder under swsetup and choose the correct version synhid.inf file
9: let the install run
and hopefully this will solve your problem...if not...hopefully someone with a dv9500 will see your post. -
-
command for the chipset driver install. never tried it for anything else yet....but it's possible that it would work as well
-
So how would I use this for my Synaptics drivers in Vista Home Prem? Or I should ask what is the usage for my exe and which would I use?
-
it is suppose to over write what corrupted the driver in the first place. then you should be able to go and install your synaptic's driver normally. this is what i had to do for my presenter 8000 bluetooth mouse. i think you can use the overall command on the synaptic's driver as well
example: run c:\synaptics.exe -overall or c:\synaptics.exe /overall i forget which one now. it forces it to over write files that would normally be skipped because they are already on your system. -
Ok, thank you. I have a toshiba A135-S4527 and I've had to Re-Image the drive serveral times due to windows update installing an "updated" driver. Every time it tries it "times out". When I go to mouse properties windows tells me that it can't connect to the Synaptics device driver. I've tried installing the driver from Toshiba but everytime I do it says "The operation returned because the timeout period expired." Do you know anything else that would help me resolve this? It does it with my VCD drivers also. I can't do rollback driver either.
-
nope, sorry. don't know anything else short of hunting down the inf file in the widows directory, then deleting it. and that can be time consuming.
or
you can do the re image one more time, but this time...do not set it to auto update. then start the update process but do not do the driver updates. it will ask your for them later. take the check out of the box and click cancel. that should stop the updates for those particular drivers till you decide to re enable them. -
I have done the non auto update, but when SP1 was installed I'm right back to square 1. Have you ever heard of time outs on installing device drivers?
-
dont think i have heard of that before. -
mine was just about the same thing. just cant place that timeout
did you do the chipset inf install? if you did it, it would have taken about 5 minutes to install. maybe up to 8 minutes. -
So are you thinking that even though Vista installs the chipset drivers i.e. 945gm, that I need to run the intel inf installer still, then my issue would be resolved after doing so?
-
yep!
in theory -
That's strange, I find it hard to believe (not that I'm doubting you) that the Intel chipset installer would affect the synaptics installer? Could Microsoft do any worse?
Edit
Or is this a fubar on Toshiba for not giving me a Vista DVD and a disc to install drivers from. Instead they gave me just an O.O.B.E. install. Could there be an issue with the way it installs the Synaptics drivers considering the ones installed are for XP? -
these are just suggestions that you can try to fix a problem that you are having. and microsoft does make mistakes...i loaded a few of their drivers and crash quite a few computers. had to go to manufactures website to get original updated drivers... all i can do is improvise as these problems arise.
-
Ya I know. It just seems that with Vista I don't have as much control over it. (Maybe because I only have Home Prem?) I am still curious though... Are these issues I'm having because of the way Toshiba did the "Image" for my computer? Would I have these problems if I could install Vista Clean, then install drivers as I go instead of Here's your computer out of the box the day you brought it home?
-
i had no problems with mine out of the box.. till i got to messing with stuff..lol
-
Sounds like my issue too. So did you get a Vista DVD, or did you get an Image disc?
-
Well, Johnksss I appreciate your help, but it still times out. I've uninstalled all synaptics software, went through the registry and still times out or only installs HID drivers. I give up at this point. I'm probably going to "downgrade" to XP and forget about Vista.
-
sorry to hear that... well lets hope xp gives you no problems.
-
For anyone following this issue I have actually resolved it. It took one more re-image and a phone call to Toshiba tech support. They told me to install an update for my laptop model dated 2/7/07 that says nothing about issues with installing drivers or the sort. I am now running Vista SP1 with the updated drivers without issues.
This leads me to believe my original theory of it's not Vista that is the issue but it's the way Toshiba "forced" the installation of the drivers to begin with in the Image of the Out of box experience.
Anyone experiencing this issue, I recommend not un-installing the drivers, call your manufacturer and tell them the timeout error. Chances are is there is a download available that fixes the issue, but it doesn't say anything of the sort. Mine was just for Software Updates. Meaning the program on the laptop that comes pre-installed that is supposed to search for updated Toshiba Software from their website. So how I was supposed to know it would fix the issue is beyond me.
Sorry for the long post, but I know if anyone else is experiencing this issue it's frustrating enough to put your laptop through a wall. Again do not uninstall the synaptics/problem drivers or try to update them until you call your manufacterer. To get their help to resolve the issue. If you do you're right back to Re-Imaging the drive. Do not install SP1 for Vista either.
Speaking of SP1, once the issue was fixed on my Laptop, SP1 only took like 30mins to install vs the 1.5hrs when it was having the driver "issue" so I knew right there that the "issue" was fixed and I would be able to continue as normal.
Thank you johnksss for your help and Ideas. -
Thanks for the Hijack...Glad to hear your issue is resolved, but the original poster still has no solution...Oh wait...That's me.
-
I am sorry about the Hijack... Have you called HP? Like I said in my post about the solution, it was something Toshiba did in their install Script with the Image for the Out of box experience. They knew exactly what the issue was when I called, and pointed me to the right file. Try to call HP tech support and reference the exact issue/error message I used in the previous post. They should be able to help you.
-
Thanks, but they were useless. I have tried both the hp install and the install from Synaptics. Seems many people with HP laptops don't even bother to install the Synaptics drivers.
-
Have you already uninstalled the driver's or tried updating them? If so you'll have to re-image the machine, then install whatever driver/file they say. That was the only way it worked for me.
Of course usual Disclaimer- MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP ANY IMPORTANT DATA NEEDED BEFORE REFORMATING. -
Just as a follow up to this issue. Bios ver 58a fixed my touchpad issues. Hopefully this will help anyone experiencing this. Now after almost a year of ownership, I can finally use palmcheck so my mouse doesn't bounce around from accidentally hitting it with my palm.
