** First off i would like to say thanks to everone on this fourm. This has been the first fourm that has had a wealth of information and reviews to help the consumer in the purchase of any laptop. And for that i say a BIG THANK YOU! :D **

Ok now to my question. I know what im looking for. (Or i think i do!)

I want to spend $1500 or less and this seems to be the target laptop for me.

Would you, if you didn't want to wait (because lord knows i can't wait for anything) get this laptop?

Im sure i could get better deals than this online or if i was to configure my own. Im just not that patient enough to wait. So this is like the middle of the road laptop i came up with.

On a side note. All i play is World of Warcraft from time to time and some Battlefield 2 once in a blue moon. I watch Dvd's and do some photoshop work. Also i dabble with linux. But thats about it.

This is just to get some input as this would be my first laptop since i have been chained to the desktop platform for far to long.

    Thanks,
    Eric

I personally wouldn't simply because its HUGE!!! No other reason :). I consider my 15.4" too big, with 14.1" and less being my preference. As I use a desktop less and less, I desire portability more and more. You might find, after buying it, that it will become just a smaller desktop (always on the desk, rarely mobile). My other turn off is it's an HP (I've had bad experiences with their case managers, but I guess every company has a few bad apples you are eventually going to run into).

But it seems like a pretty good deal. I configured a similar system on HP shopping and it came out to be almost $1500 with shipping. The big plus about retail units is you get special add-ons that don't usually come with CTO's without paying extra for them (TV Tuner, headphones, etc...).

For $1300, you are saving $200 over a CTO, plus you don't have to wait for it to be configured, you can go to the store and (hopefully) pick it up that same day.

So if the size doesn't bother you, I would say it's a pretty good deal. The specs are definately impressive for that price.

Sometimes i wish i could wait for a CTO one to be built but .. I cant! The size really doesnt bother me all to much. I have a 19" HP Wide screen now on my desktop, so i guess i wanted something a little similar to that. But im glad that aleast its not a poor choice. Thats why i always come here to get my questions answered. Thanks Kubel :D

    HPTaurus,

I have a model quite similar(see my sig). I find the size quite appropriate for my tasks. And I do take it mobile. Mind you, I also have a Dell D410 (12") that goes with me on flights and such, where the DV9500 would be too big.

I like my HP, with the exception of the very poor audio input capability. The built in mics and the drivers do not work worth a darn. Auxillary input is not much better.

If you are comfortable with the unit's specs, I say you should be quite happy with the CC unit. It looks pretty darn well loaded, for the price. I think if you were to compare with CTO pricing, even at Costco you will find the unit worth getting.
