I managed to load xp on my laptop back in May, been running for the most lean and mean. The only 2 problems I had was the wirless would stop working after a reboot. I updated a driver and that was fixed.... the only other problem I have stems from USB...

I have to use 30+ USB thumb drives for my work. When ever a 'Flash' thumb drive came in Windows prompted for a driver. If the thumb drive said cruzer, mircro... etc no problems. Well stupid me... I got froggy and tired fixing it after 6 months of living with it.... I was reading on the internet... i know my fault... but it said to delete all the usb generic hubs and when windows reboots it will rebuild the hub and everything will be good to go...

Flipping wrong... as I type I am downloading the massive driver pack praying that one file will work.. But in the case it doesn't what do i need to do. The unkown hardware is coming up 4 times when I reboot and I have reinstalled every driver that I previously installed and had a copy of.

    Its the dv9620us ...

I know its an Intel Based mother board and I am running the ICH7 family chipset drivers.

Don't know about specific drivers, or XP compatability issues that you are experiencing, however your last line is a potential clue as to why you are having such grief! Your HP dv9620us is Nvidia based, if you are trying to install drivers for an Intel system you will have problems...
I have a similar model (9610us) here is a link to yours:

Well that is incorrect... that link says 1.9 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-58 and I know for a fact it is running Intel 2.2GHz Duo-Core and I don't have light scribe... either the sticker on the bottom is wrong hp got their wires crossed.

Double check your sticker... the dv9620us is the link he gave you... perhaps you have the dv9260us? It uses the 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo.
