Hey everyone title basically says it all. I have a dv9700 that I got in late April of this year...it has worked out great for me so far but now suddenly the lights on the volume control buttons are dead. The buttons still work there just aren't any lights...has anyone else had this problem or have any idea what it could be?
    Thanks
    Dan

No one? I know its not a very serious issue but it kinda worries me after my notebook arrived brand new with minor scratches/dents and signs of rough handling during assembly...I opted not to deal with returning it after hearing about some of the horror stories. Hopefully this isn't the start of more serious failures...one other thing I should have mentioned is that all the other lights on the notebook are working normally its just the volume + and - buttons.

Well, I have a dv9500t, and my "Touchpad On" light is dead. The "Touchpad Off" orange light works, but not the blue one. Got my laptop late August of 07. Died probably a few months ago, I dunno, I rarely use my touchpad, so it doesn't bother me.

Try pushing down on the volume buttons and restarting the notebook. If it lights turn back on then the ribbon cable is loose

In my case flashing the bios make the light turn on again.

This happens on my laptop every couple of months. The usual culprit is a bit of dirt between the bottom of the lid and the and the casing containing the quicklaunch buttons. This unseats the ribbon supplying the power to the lights.

Whilst doing the following, make sure you have discharged yourself to protect the motherboard from static.

Take out the battery, press the ON button for at least 20 secs (be careful on this as it resets the bios settings sometimes). There should be 6 screws in the batterry bay, undo these. Very gently prize the top outercasing off the chassis (be very careful as the power ribbon is attached). Once released, the power ribbon can be released from the motherboard be levering the clip. Reseat the ribbon, put back the battery and turn the computer on. Hopefully you should now have a full set of lights. Clean under the lid and the now exposed motherboard (compressed air is best). Replace the top casing.

This is the procedure I use but if you undertake this, realise that you do so at your own risk.

I have the exact same problem on my dv9500t. Had it for about 4 or so months working great then .. the + and - lights went out and have been out ever since and now...the mute button every so often...about once a month...will be a light purple constantly. I don't know if I'm willing to risk opening it and screwin it all up just for those though - but it would be nice to have them working...
