I've just seen the dv9700t... Now I might want that instead of the t61p![]()
Don't know what to do. Do I really need the portability?

The HP 9700 is a nice laptop but the GPU on the T61P is better. If you plan to play games the T61P will perform better since it's GPU is based on the 8600 GT DDR3. Otherwise that HP is one sweet laptop with a very nice screen.
-
A better comparison is to the 8510w which in my experience blows the doors off a T61p.
Screen Quality is far superior and even when comparing the budget 8510w (w/ the 2.0ghz pcsr) it's faster on the same benchies.
If you don't care about blueray you can get the HP quite reasonably from newegg and you can get it immediately. The 61 has to go thru order processing, get scheduled, wait for parts, built in china when they get around to it and shipped to the USA and then to your door.
I got the lowest pcsr because I knew the 45nm stuff was around the corner and I'd want to replace it when they become affordable. -
I don't see how you can compare the two. The T61P has a 14.1" screen, whereas the dv9700t has a 17" screen. I think a more appropriate comparison would be T61P vs dv2700t.
-
Right they are completely different kind of lappies , if I were you , I'd get the Thinkpad but the R61 , the T is too expensive.
-
I don't know about that, the portability can always come in handy...I guess it depends on the actual price difference.
-
Like stated previously, you can't really compare the two. One's consumer-class, and one's business class. Different prices, sizes, builds, service...etc.
-
Thing is. I'm comparing these two because the 17" just came and shoved itself in my face. So I really cannot not compare them...
-
hummm, shoved it's self in your face ....did it..... you sure u didn't give it a little push.....*L*
-
Yup, shoved itself right in there. I wish I noticed when it was there, woulda grabbed it!
-
The T61P is also available with a 15.4" screen.

R61 is much cheaper and t and r are the same computers besides the cosmetic difference.

trust me , you will never curry out a17inch laptop with you if you buy it.
so if you care about portability , mobile use , buy a 13.3 or less.
a 14.1 is still ok to tote around once a while but not often.
a 15.1 is already too heavy and annoying to even move from a room to another. -
No, trust ME. I carry around my 17" dv9700t all the time
-
Unless you have a very weak back, I tend to disagree with you, especially with the 14.1" and the 15.4" models. I might agree with you on the 17" models, but anything smaller is perfectly suitable for portable, mobile use.
Trust me, I carry around my 15.4" nw8440 every day without issues. And that's usually with an additional textbook or two. -
a 17inch laptop is NOT that portable, depending on who you are. its fine for me, but most people i know dont like the weight of the laptop.
-
Ok, 15" is chosen.
-
Serious? how?
-
How can you do it? It's a huge notebook , I saw it once but I did want to carry around so I went for 14.1 ,even a 14.1 is too big for me , now I am looking for a 13.3 and can't wait to get a DV3004TX or SZ75N.
I think you are a very strong man. -
I put in a bag and carry it around, not much to it...I have carried around books adding up to 5 times the weight of the dv9700t, a measly 8 lbs is not much.
dv9700t vs. t61p
