A while ago I read that someone had problems finding a hard drive bracket for his dv8k's second hard drive. I just wanted to know if it is available for the dv9000t, because Im probably going to buy it in a few weeks, and I would definitely prefer to buy the notebook with the 2.0ghz processor instead of the secondary hard drive.

I really seriously need the secondary hard drive because Im going to use it for portable music production, so if anyone can assure me that I will be able to buy a secondary hard drive and a mountable bracket I will go for the 2.0 ghz. If not, then my question would be if the 2.0 ghz is worth the extra money compared to the 1.83, (yeah, I have heard about the monstrous 4mb cache, but will I need it?) Besides, the processor is not as easy to upgrade as the hard drive.

    Thanks in advance. :)

I'd go for the 4mb cache cpu..

You can always add a second hard drive later.

If you search under my user name I think I've posted info on the bracket..

You could try here as a start:
    HP PartSurfer
    http://www.partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main

The thing was for the dv8xxxx was that is was the first (HP) unit with dual drives... and it took a while for the part to be available. No one had confirmation of the correct part number, or had one in their hand to confirm until 8-2006, with the dv8xxxx series being released around the first part of 2006.

You dv9xxxx guys are lucky.. dv9000t bracket is already showing as a seperate part.

Another option may be an external drive, via the FIREWIRE port..... (a very useful option even if you do with go with the 2nd internal drive.)

I just went through the parts store, and you can buy that bracket for $45USD. I'd suggest getting one disc, buy a bracket, and then buy the second hard drive from NewEgg. Also, depending on the price at the time it might be cheaper to get the lowest drive from HP and then buy two at NewEgg.

Not 100% sure yet, but I think that you don't even need brackets for dv9000t. I bought mine with just one 100GB 7200rpm, and now waiting for the new Hitachi 200GB 7200rpm to come out. And that's why I took my HDD out and try to put it in the second empty HDD space. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that hard drive perfectly fits without any brackets! Just make sure to buy Serial-ATA HDD!
    Good Luck!

While it may "fit", consider that you don't want the hd putting stress on the SATA connectors.. That could cause a problem over time.

You may indeed want to fabricate a bracket to hold the drive in place...

Just an idea... I read a post from one guy with a dv8000t that had used double-sided tape to secure his drive.

PS: If you could,(and this is directed at other dv9xxxx owners as well) please take some close up pictures of the hd bracket, and how /what it engages..

He's right; those brakets provide a few extra support points for the hard drive. The bracket is also made of very thin metal, so it wouldn't impact the size of the hard drive bay. Not using one is asking for trouble.
