I don't know about the error, but I can tell you the release button on my
drive unit requires a fingernail-push to get it to eject. Just pushing with
    my fingertip doesn't usually work.

I'd assume his computer came with Vista.

However the last cause is possible.

You're in warranty. Just call up HP and have them send you a replacement drive.

They shouldn't bother with that and they usually just send out a replacement drive and request the old one. If they are unhelpful just reply back and I will provide the information to their Satisfaction Minions.

The original HL-DT DVDRAM drives on the DV9000 (and other?) laptops had a number of problems. Mine used to pop open at random due to a faulty door switch.
When the notebook was in for its (second) replacement system board, I reported the issue and they installed a different drive: a Slimtype DVD A DS8A1H. So far, it has been just fine.

well i seem to have fixed it .
i did do a firmware update a couple of weeks ago from
TSSTcorp TS-L632N firmware virsion o503 to
TSST TS-L632N firmware version SC02 release date 2008-01-22

then doing a little investigating i came across this post on another forum
    http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=43823&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

so i went with the last post on that thread . i started to flash the drive with the SC03 firmware then it looked like the software that was doing the update was freezing then suddenly my drive kicked in and pc rebooted and hey presto everything seems ok info tool seems to acknowlege the drive .see attchment . will try burn dvd now and see if it works .

i was chatting to hp support today online . he said it may be a duff lense
