It would probably be better to buy an external case and throw an internal burner into it.

Something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145342 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827106023 Yeah I know the colors don't match, but who honestly cares? You're not spending your time looking at components, are you? You're using them.

That combination would be faster than any internal drive you could buy for your laptop. And easier to replace, since optical drives can die like nothing.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827129004 You could also just buy something like that, unless your components HAVE to match your system. But again, you're not staring at your hardware and how it looks, you're using it.

Any slim IDE drive should work, but it might not match with the computer. Also, I would recommend a slot loading drive for a bit more. No more fooling with weak disc trays.

I swapped a NEC 8X slimline DVD-RW drive into my zv5000z when I still had it. The bezel won't match but otherwise it worked perfectly and it's trivial to do the swap. See Newegg, etc for the drive.

To do the swap: unplug from the wall, remove the battery, remove the two screws under the optical drive bay, slide the drive sled out, use a #0 Phillips screwdriver to swap drives, reassemble.

On another note, I would avoid NEC (had NEC drives die far too quickly in the past) and Samsung/Toshiba/TSSTCorp drives (it was what my system previously had and ended up scratching discs and not burning them properly either).

Lite-On, Pioneer, and Plextor are really the only way to go when buying optical drives. Which is why I linked to the slim Pioneer drive in my post.
