The new HP DV6 that I have has a forth USB port that doubles as an eSATA port.

Therefore it should be possible to run a notebook SATA drive directly off this port, USB providing the power for the drive and the same port providing the SATA data.

If the above is correct then why can I not find any cables anywhere like the one in this link:

I am aware that most of HP new range of notebooks support this forth eSATA / USB port. How do we use it with buying an exturnal case?

I use my DV7 with an old external USB/SATA 3.5" case, bought when SATA appeared with self power, so i have connected to the wall. I doubt you can get power from computer for 3.5" drives cases.

3.5" power from USB = No
2.5" power from USB = Yes

2.5" power from eSATA / USB combo port = ?

I know there is no way possible to provide power over a data cable, although surely the remaining USB part of the port can power a 2.5" notebook hard drive?
What simple connector or 2.5" case provides this without the need for external power source?

Looks great but I cannot find that product in New Zealand.

Is there any other products that offer the same features, I have been searching but have yet to find something, anyone?
