I have a HP 8770w, I bricked HP quadro k3100m while installing different HP vbios in the machine. I ran a different thread in the forum but no solution from that thread.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/problem-upgrading-to-k3100m-in-hp-8770w.821630/
While searching the internet, I found two different products that clicked me to look forward
a. e-GPU (External graphics with expresscard slot or wificard mini pcie slot)
b. USB Graphics adapter (HP USB graphics adapter - https://support.hp.com/vn-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-usb-graphics-adapter/3913299)
My primary intention is to flash the vbios while the quadro k3100m card is still inside the 8770w (which is not working and laptop not booting up while the card is inside the mxm slot)
The questions that arise are:
1. With the issue of not booting windows or even ms-dos with the card inside (problem explained in the forum link mentioned above), will I be able to get display in the external monitor connected through the usb graphics adapter to load ms-dos only also, with the graphics card still inside? If that is the case, I may be able to flash vbios from ms-dos. If somebody has some experiences with this or some technical feedbacks also.
2. Same issue mentioned above, I would like to use e-gpu solution if that brings out the display (no matter where- laptop internal or external whichever is ok). Hp 8770w has expresscard slot and would use if this works out. Will this e-gpu will likely give solution for me so that I get display and able to flash vbios in the quadro k3100m.
Sorry that I am asking questions but not trying. But since I cannot directly pay for and have shipment from sellers from ebay, I have to use third party source in my country to get these products which will increase my overall cost significantly and I will also not be able to return in case of anything not working out for me. Hence I would like to be very sure that something will surely work for me before ordering the product.
I request for expert advice, comments and suggestions.

Check if you can access bios to see if your actually posting. On my alienware m15x with bricked gpu i can hit f2 until it beeps (which means im in the bios) then hit f10 and enter which is exit without saving which will restart the pc. If you can't get to the bios there is a chance that the card itself may be fried. Also you can try creating an autoexec.bat that will automatically flash your vbios as long as you can boot off the usb it is installed onto

1. I changed the boot order in 8770w, to first check the usb drive for booting automatically to ms-dos.
2. I created dos bootable usb drive from another laptop using rufus. I put the nvflash ms-dos version into the usb drive and also the backup HP.rom file in the root of the usb drive.
3. Before changing the graphics card, I booted 8770w with usb drive in to make sure that everything is working well. It booted automatically to dos when I power on the laptop.
4. Then I opened 8770w and replaced graphics card to k3100m and new nvidia heat sink.
5. With bootable usb drive in, I booted the laptop. No any output in internal screen as well as in DP port.
6. I then tried to manually used the nvflash command using laptop keyboard, thinking that if that would have loaded into dos. But after typing few keys, I started to get beep sound on any key press. Press and key and beep sound, press another key and beep sound.
7. I shut down the laptop. Take out the usb drive and edited the autoexec file to add nvflash command so that it would automatically flash the rom when being loaded. Used nvflash -4 -5 -6 command to forcefully write the bios.
8. I booted through the usb drive. Waited for more than 5-10 minutes. Shut down the laptop. take the usb drive out. Still the same blank screen no progress.
9. I reinsert the usb drive and booted on the laptop. With some keys press, I get similar beep sound on every key press.
I even tried with teamviewer on windows which would load automatically and able to control from another computer. But with changing graphics card to k3100m, no loading of windows too. I pressed few keys and beep sound similarly as previous with dos boot.
I donot know how i get into bios with black screen. I can press F10 to get into bios directly. But I donot know if that helps.
What is the beep sound trying to tell me about my errors? -
When you install new hardware to the computer does it bring up a screen that informs you of this? Maybe your being directed into the bios due to some hardware change. When you start getting the beeps from pressing keys, see if you can hit the f key that makes you exit the bios (in my case f10 - makes me exit bios without saving) and see if the computer restarts. Also maybe try running an external display through hdmi and vga and see if that gives you any display. 100% the only thing you did before this started happening was try to flash the vbios yes?

I already told you how to do it, you need to use teamviewer. You need to make sure you have custom password and that it boots with windows.
-
He already said he can't get it to boot into windows. The beep sounds arent saying anything either, its most likely just invalid input for the screen that you are on (most common in the bios in my experience)

I set it with the firepro graphics to set the teamviewer to load automatically and have used it successfully. When windows automatically boots up, teamviewer automatically connects. But after changing the card, no any connection. If it had load load into windows, it would have connected automatically. But it never did. I tried your method too Danishblunt.
I also tried blind flash by automatically creating autoexec.bat file to flash the bios file. None of these two methods worked for me.Last edited: Aug 15, 2018 -
I will have to check into the bios while I am still in firepro graphics for bios fn keys you mentioned about.
I have only tried Displayport. No HDMI port, but there is VGA port and docking station which I have not tried. I will see into this.
Yes, this serious problem was with the faulty vbios install. No hardware related issues. Initially it was OK. -
I guess the only thing you can do is purcchase this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/EEPROM-BIO...=0&_nkw=CH341A&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0 -
Also, could I be able to use e-gpu by expresscard slot or mini-pcie slot, example of link below.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/V8-0-EXP-G...u&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313#shpCntId
I have no experience. If someone have done and have positive outcome with this solution, I could try. As buying and shipping will cost me double the price listed in ebay as I have to do it with third party in my country, I have to spend the money reasonably and I may not be able to return to, even if that is possible.
But previously, I have flashed the same card with dos version of nvflash, before it got messed up.
PS: the links to understand and use of bios programmer, (the link you posted) I will order this and give a try if I could understand what needs to be done. -
