I was just chatting with hp trying to get help with this issue but that lead to nothing productive so hopefully someone might have some advice. I'm trying to connect my envy 14 to my monitor using an hdmi to dvi cable. I know that my desktop could connect to my tv using the same cable, going dvi to hdmi. I know that my envy 14 can connect to the tv going hdmi to hdmi. I know that the desktop can connect to the monitor dvi to dvi. The only idea I have is that the cable is only dvi to hdmi and not hdmi to dvi? But i didnt think cables worked that way.

When I open the display window in control panel it doesn't detect any external displays. Any ideas? Thanks

Have you switched to the ATI graphics adapter? Running on integrated Intel graphics won't provide you with any output ports.
