    hi,

i'm having a problem with my volume control. when i use the F7 and F8 buttons to increase/decrease volume, the volume goes up and down but the onscreen volume display does not come up anymore. it did at first, then stopped, then came back, and now has stopped again. the latest thing i did was reinstall my ATI driver.

any ideas how to get the volume display back? i have HP quick launch and it is part of start up routine.

    thanks

See page 1, first post of owners lounge. You'll want to use 3RVX for volume overlay.

yeah go with the 3rvx volume program. you can customize it to your liking and it wont take you out of full screen games when you adjust the volume.

thanks, is there a way to adjust it so with each push of my volume button i get the indicator showing plus or minus one, seems to take about 7 pushes now.

i didn't realize the stock one was part of mediasmart.

well there are other skins or you can mess around with the "custom change volume" amount til it works for the envy

Or you can mess with the skin in it's own settings xml file until it works right (and gets more dots, but this is a slight pain since well yeah)

I mean if you want it to update itself for every time you hit the audio change button you can open up the 3rvx files, go to the default skin/default (black) icon if you're using that one.

then right click and edit the .xml file (or find a way to open it in notepad)

then change meter max to 48.

each update won't be a full block anymore (it'll be more just a part of the block, but still it'll fill up an entire block usually after two or three increments and it'll show a change each time you update your audio)

    no.

48 roughly corresponds to the envy 14's #of ticks it takes to go from 0 to full

    in 3rvx

you could instead try to set up the "change volume by a custom amount" til it looks right but *shrugs*

So, if i'm reading the previous post right, this means that 3RVX does not have the ability to change the volume increment amount? And instead all the 'custom volume change amount' does is allow you to configure the OSD to match your system?

This is annoying; the only reason I installed 3RVX was because I thought it would allow me to change the volume increment for each press of the volume key. I don't give two hoots about there being an OSD.

Personally, I can't understand why you would only want the volume to go up 2% for each key press. 48 presses to go from 0 to 100% ?? Why?

I desparately want to find a way to set each key press to a 10% increment. Can anybody please help with a way to achieve that?

    Ha; solved my own problem.
For anyone else wondering this; you need to go to the 'hotkey setup' tab, and then remap the keypresses which are defaulted to 'WIN + OemUp' and 'WIN + OemDown'
Leave the actions as they are, and change the keycombination, pushing the f7/f8 volume keys. Then the keys will show as 'VolumeUp' and 'VolumeDown'.

After that, adjusting the custom volume change amount actually works!

Not as nice as the blue bar for volume control but still better than nothing.

    Thanks.

It's better looking on the 2000 series with beats theme, but as long as it works, it should be fine.
