i started using my envy 17 with my 46" tv, but since i started doing this i noticed the temps rise a bit.

the laptop is sitting on top of my fios box, but the box only gets mildly warm. temps now for CPU and GPU are around 65-70C. when i open the lid, the top left of the keyboard cooks ....

i want to drop my temps a bit, maybe by 5-10 C, it never used to get this hot when i used it on a lapdesk (same usage).

worried that the extended temps will reduce the life of the laptop and kill the battery's longevity ....

the resolution i am using for output is 1680x1050. connection is HDMI. i didn't think the GPU would run this hot for this output mode, but i need to tame the temps or stop using it with the TV all together.

I use my DV6 with my TV's all the time via HDMI....and yeah.....it gets HOT.

I usually set my computer on a book or something flat (never the carpet), and I have a 9 cell battery for added air flow....but it still cooks.

i'm certain it's the GPU as well as the lost cooling by keeping the lid closed. i may have to get creative and rearrange things to get cooler air to the laptop ....

been observing temps lately, it seems the laptop is cooler when the lid is shut and it's being used on the TV. when i take it and use it on a lapdesk, the temps rise a bit. it's weird because when it's being used for the tv, i open the lid and touch the upper left and it's much hotter than it is when u use it on a lapdesk.

the cablebox is perforated with holes all around the sides and top, so it looks like the laptop is getting better circulation when it's on the box as opposed to the lapdesk, which makes sense.

just wish the keyboard area didn't heat up so much, i fear it may discolor or degrade the LCD crystals on the display.
