Does it stay at 70% or does it go down after awhile?

What it sounds like is a virus. Get an anti-virus program, if you don't have money go get avg, boot the computer into safemode F8, and run the anti-virus and see what comes up.

adaware isn't an antivirus program, it only removes crap put on your computer by internet sites and so forth that you visit. I use that and spybot to help keep my computer clean from spyware and adware and it keeps the internet and computer running efficient.

You need to go download AVG, which is a free antivirus program, or go and purchase a antivirus program and run it in safemode.

If you have norton installed then that is the problem.

I suggest you get a hold of a Vista install disc and do a clean install. It will definately be fixed this way

When he says clean install, he doesn't mean using the recovery disks or the recovery partition. He means that you get a regular Vista install disk and install it. Then you'll have to download all the software and drivers for your computer and install them. When you use the recovery partition or recovery disks it installs all the bloatware, aka crap, that will hamper the full performance of your computer.

Are you running Windows XP by chance? I looked up a 9700 series pavilion and it appears it may be a desktop (500GB HD) running XP. If so take a look at this Microsoft Article about " Explorer.exe Process Uses Many CPU Cycles When Windows Is Idle". There is a HOT FIX available within the article. It appears that the fix was incorporated in SP1 but it couldn't hurt to try it anyway.
