Serial numbers of your unit reflect the ODM (origional Design Manufacturer) as follows.
CNF=Quanta (they build the dv 6000 and dv 9000 notebooks, all tablets in the tx series, as well as some Compaq (F500) models and possibly the HDX series)
CND=Compal (they build most Compaqs, dv4s and dv7s)
2CE=Wistron (dv 2000s as well as some of the newer dv series notebooks, G50/60/70 series as well as their Compaq clones)
CNU=Inventec (most business/enterprise class HP Compaq PCs, as well as the HP Mini 1000 series and 2133 Mini-Note and possibly the HDX series as well)
the next 3 digits in your serial reflect the date of manufacture (638=2006, 38th week).

Nice info thanks. I have 8530w built by Winstron it seems (never heard of them before I knew about quanta and compal though)
-
interesting, how did you figure this out? dv5t from quanta. are all dv5t's built by quanta?
-
Seems like me 9420 is from Compal. I coulda sworn I saw a sticker on the box saying compal even!
-
in a lot of cases it will say right on the box. I was just looking at a HP Mini and the shipping slip on the box says it came from Inventec.
-
Great info to have. Thanks
-
hmm,
guess my 8510p was built by inventec.
all the time i was under the impression that it was built by quanta, since the display it was delivered with was also a wsxga+ from quanta.
thanks for the info mate.
may we ask how you gathered this info ? did you check on several shipping boxes and the serials of the notebooks inside -
the serials are usually listed on the outside of the box as well. that and the place it says they shipped from.

8510p-Inventec
guess the 8530 are built somewhere else because of the new body -
is there any quaility difference between these original manafacturers? does quanta make better laptop? -
