First guys I am sorry for all the questions and I don't plan on leaving this site after I get my new HP.

I didn't order the extended warranty with my HP but I am wondering if HP is like many other companies and will mail me a offer for a extended warranty right before my standard 1 year warranty runs out.

Call and ask. I'm pretty sure they'll offer it again--after all, warranties are where companies make a lot of their money. I know that Dell will keep pestering you regarding warranty.

i called hp and asked if i could purchase a dv9500 and some time later purchase an extended warranty but the answer was no. They explained once the computer is sent to the customer they can not sell them any kind of warranty because they cant know if the computer is at all working. This was my experience... but at the same time it made me thought they said that in order to try to sell it to me right away.. what do you guys think?

    my two cents...

Yes, as I understand it, you can purchase the ext warranty up to 1 year after purchse of the computer. You can for sure buy it a month or so later, even if you buy the machine [new] on eBay or whereever.

But why wait? The warranty extension is from the date of purchase of the machine, not the date of purchase of the warranty!

Buy it now, and if you need service, you get express repair! Accident? If you get ADP, your covered! BTW, they have something like a 10 day waiting period from the time you buy (plus free 2 day shipping) till they will accept an express claim...

So dont wait! Get it today :)

The info on the page is slightly incorrect, and is a little skewed in HP's favor.

While the warranty extension portion starts after the original warranty ends, the express repair, express shipping, and accidential damage protection portion starts 10 days after you purchase and register.

So if you wait to purchase, you are throwing away as much as 356 days of express repair service, free express shipping, and accidential damage protection.

Of course, HP may not want to advertise this. On the other hand, I have seen a few posts here where folks are wondering when they will get thier laptops back from the repair depot, and complaining things are taking way too long to fix with the standard warranty.

My experience has been that if they are waiting for parts (bla bla) and you have an express warranty, and you compain, they will send you a new or refurb machine that is often better than the one getting repaired. They once sent me a list of replacement machines to pick from, all with better CPU's, memory upgrades, better optical drives and the like.

Wait if you want to, however, I think you would be much better off to go ahead and get it.

Does this apply to their Small and medium business site laptops like the 8510w/p?
