Hi, need help in format and recovery.....

Long story short, I need to wipe every thing on my drive. I have 2 disks that came with the machine. The first is an application and driver CD while the other is a Operating System CD.

I wiped this system over a year ago but not sure how I did it. The HP site says that I can make a recover CD from start then all programs and there is a place there that says system recovery. I seem to not be able to find it.

Regardless, how can I reformat this thing? WIll the above CD's work? Is there a work around?

    ANy help will be appreciated.

    thanks ahead of time.

The OS CD should be an OEM copy of Vista, which should include all the necessary drivers included in the installation for you. Thats what you need. Boot from it and you're on your way!

Use the Operating System CD to clean install WinXP, get whatever drivers you need from hp.com, and install whatever applications you really want from the application CD.

Newer HP notebooks use recovery CDs or DVDs that install the factory HD image including all the HP bloatware. Starting with the plain install CD like you have is better.

If you're feeling ambitious, you can integrate SP3 and perhaps other things into that installation CD:

    Question though

I ran the winxp cd. It only put the os back on but it did not wipe it. How do I wipe it first?

    thanks

It'll definitely give you an option to format the HD. I'd go with quick format rather than full unless there's anything incriminating on the drive you want to get rid of :D.
