How are you determining that only one core is being seen? How many CPUs are being seen in Device Manager and how many are set to be used in msconfig?

Devise mgr is seeing only 1 with 2 logic. MSCONFIG in advanced boot is set to 2.

I was thinking about reinstalling the OEM i3 and seeing if the unit sees IT as a dual core.
I think I shall do so and thanks for the reply. How is it down under ? I'm in So California
    where it's HOT !

Try fiddle around with Device Manager and msconfig first. That should be easier at least.

Weather is good here today. Nice clear sky and it's a day off from work which makes it a very good day (15-25C).

Well after some messing around, Device Mgr is now seeing 4 cores. MSCONFIG is
set at 2 cores in advanced boot. Why the system info is only showing 1 core I don't know
but all seems ok and it;'s running cooler after being shut down for 24 hrs.

I just realized I should of put this in the g-series sub forum, but didn't.
    Getting old sucks.

    (oops, I moved the thread)

Doesn't msconfig let you set 4 cores? It does here for my i5-540M.

No, it didn't give me option for 4...right now, but when I did first boot up
with the i5 and went into MSCONFIG advanced boot, I DID see 4 cores listed
and I changed that for some dumb reason. I have to replace the MB due to
a keyboard ribbon lock breakage, so when I install the i5 in the new MB
and crank everything up again, we'll see if 4 cores show.

Thanks for moving the thread. Much easier to find now !

Ok. Now have a replacement MB in it, but the board is an aftermarket.
I keep getting a mgs at startup stating the info for the board and to
go to www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup/. It also gives me the option
to press ENTER to continue to boot. I do press ENTER and it does go to
    boot and runs fine.

My question is, how can I turn off this info mgs at startup ? Insyde BIOS
is VERY limited as to what I can do, etc.

    Any tips, suggestions, etc ?

    Thanks.

Well since no one seems to have an answer here, or hasn't seen the thread, I found
THIS sweet lil bit of news out. Apparently HP "brands" or "tattoos" their motherboards
to lessen piracy. So if one wants to repair ones laptop or desktop by buying another
MB and it wasn't bought through HP, then one has this msg come up. The BIOS
[Most probably the worse I have ever seen, that being a limited INSYDE BIOS] will
allow one to do some very little changes, but nothing major.

So if you should have the misfortune of having a hardware problem go wrong with
at the least a unit like this G72-250US, then plan on sending into HP along with savings
and hope for the best. I completely understand why HP does this, but it sure can create a
mess if one doesn't know about this "branding" deal.
