This one here?: HP Support Assistant HP Pavilion dv6z-6100 CTO Quad Edition Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

I think it has to do with your hardware too. I'd rather have "on" or "off" because with the newer one one you can only set coolest (which cranks fans up and also throttles CPU above 70 or 75C), Performance which is "normal" but the fans ramp up too slowly for my liking, and finally quietest which basically only lets the fans turn on above like 60C or something like that. Although with no fan if you put any load on it, it will reach 60C fairly quickly.

from my testing around i found that
2.1 only has on and off
2.0 has on, off and auto
and 1.x version has the coolest, quietest and performance settings

i am currently using 2.0 and no problems, setting on auto

Where did you find CoolSense 2.0 and 2.1? I tried others in the past but they didn't work.
