    getting no sound on dv7/vista

    "speakers" are selected under sound properties, when i play something i see the sound bar moving but i'm getting no sound. mute is off, not sure what's going on.

    Double check the master volume in the sound properties (and in the media player you are using) to see the slider control is not slid to the bottom (or muted as you said), and/or try plugging in headphones to see if you can get sound that way (just in case you have a loose connection to speakers).

    Reinstall latest drivers from HP site. My friend's dv7 had similar problem and that helped, maybe it helps you too :)

    To quickly reinstall drivers, go to control panel - device manager, then sound, video and game controllers.

    If you have an exclamation point on your sound controller, definately is it, but in any case right click and choose remove, then reboot. Vista will then reload it, if fails, then remove again, and then run the install for the sound from SWSETUP/drivers/audio/setup.exe
