well, the easiest thing to do is usually to reinstall the OS anew. you should be able to ask HP for a Vista install disk, along with discs for all the programs that came on your tablet pc. then, just reinstall the OS and add only those programs you want.

HP wont provide you with those discs. It can be a pain getting a hold of the Vista install disc, but it is worth the clean install. You will need to get them of a friend. I suggest you read orev's clean installation guide sticky.

For now, you can download RevoUninstaller and CCleaner to do a semi-clean of these programs. It will be effective but not as good as a clean install

You can delete pretty much all of the HP installed/branded software and frankly a clean install might not be totally necessary.

P.S. Burn the restore DVD's before chaning anything with regards to the OS, thats your only option to put the system back to factory state if necessary. Also there are a couple of updates for the HP recovery software. Apply them if you havent yet burnt the restore DVD's.

I don't use Windows often, but when I do, using an OEM install just feels wrong ;/

Yeah, that's how I used to feel as well...actually I still do. But this is the first time that I decided to just uninstall all the crap ware and I have been using it for close to a month now & dont think it would have improved with a clean install. Of course there are still other variables which only a clean install would solve, like the XP SP3 fiasco but if you don't have access to a vista disc or just too lazy :p its not too bad.

What happened, was the WU install of SP3 fubaring users' computers? Just curious, as I used the standalone installer at the time........

    Thanks for the info everybody!

I have a variant of that question: If I nuke my tx2500 and do a fresh install of vista business (I have a site license through my university), will I lose anything that I will miss? Of course getting drivers is easy enough, but is there any worthwhile software that I won't have access to? I'm worried about DVD burning software, as vista business doesn't seem to have it by default

on a related note, is it possible to selectively reinstall certain programs from the recovery disks or recovery partition, if I have formatted the main partition?

    Thanks very much!

All the pre-installed software have installation files located under C:/SWSetup folder in the stock Windows installation. Backup that folder and you should have access to pretty much all of the main HP software. The only ones I have found to be missing when I did a clean install was the Tablet properties tile in the Windows Mobility Center. ofcourse, the tablet properties menu is still available, its just the tile that did not have any installation files assosciated with it in the SWSetup folder. The DVD burning program should be located in SWSetup\CyberDVD.

P.S - This only concerns if you are switching from 32bit to 64 bit or vice versa, HP only includes the 64bit or 32bit version of the program if your system was pre-installed with 64bit or 32bit version Vista and the available download on HP's website is a for the older version.
