    Your programs will work.
I had issues with my fingerprint reader and bluetooth.
The wireless will work, but its a hit or miss on the touch buttons. I think mine still worked when i tried windows 7 RC1

Have you run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor (still in beta)? While it's not a rock-solid guarantee, it should give you a better idea of what will, and what will not, give you problems.

I installed win7 rc1 x64 on my dv5-1025el (amd turion) with great success, but I see you have intel-based dv5 so I have no idea what will happen to you.

Win7 recognized and installed proper drivers (and control software too!) for atheros wifi card, hp webcam, IDT HD Audio chip and Synaptic touchpad. Then I installed ati drivers for Win7.
I had to install southbridge, drivers for the integrated dvt-t receiver and accelerometer for hdd protection for vista x64. Now it works like a charm!

BTW, I recently installed a new updated bios that claims support for newer microsoft operating systems. Check it out, maybe there's such newer bios for intel based laptops too.
