    hi there
i am ordering the new envy beats edition this week...
kinda got sick of checking out all the notebooks with each missing 1 key component so i thought the LED screen is just fine after all

    3 questions though

1- how can i order the slice ( I NEED THE BATTERY LIFE , and i coudlnt find it on hp official page )
2-can i install the 2nd hdd ( probably an ssd ) my self ? i mean are both slots easy to reach ? and does having the combination of ssd and hdd brings down the performance ?
    3- i want some good coupons :p

finally i am ordering this from kuwait and sending it to a NY hotel where my sister is visiting during the next week... is it ok or too dangerous from faulty hardware ?

    Best of regards
    Ahmed

    i am really puzzled here...
the dv6 looks really good and the 2gb GPU upgrade and 1600x900 are just awsome...
    but the battery life stinks...

Could consider the new Samsung Series 7. That will have a 1600x900 screen and a good GPU. Also comes with a range of screens.

I sound like an advertisement but I just think it looks like a good alternative.

    mmmmm but built in battery...
that would be a huge setback if the battery fell short

I'm not sure on this but it might be possible to open it and replace it. I don't really know.

Really? We don't know whether the battery is irremovable. But even if it isn't...are you really going to invest in a second battery if the battery life does fall short?

This is probably the #2 reason people avoid macs aside from bang for buck for specs, yet I'm going to go out on a limb and bet that 99.5%+ of people at my school don't carry second batteries. If it weren't for this kind of minor worry, I'm sure Apple's market share would be a few % points higher.

Nope, was thinking the same. I'd trust Samsung to invest much into creating a premium product if the Galaxy S2 line is anything to go off. Sorry, but HP really skimped on the Envy.

Well to answer your original question,
    1) here is the slice battery, the other, older sizes are on the page with laptop batteries as well. I know it says 1000 series but I'm 99% certain it works with the 2xxx as well, they're the same size last time I checked, but if you're going to be paying that much for a battery, I'd call and make sure.
    2) This makes me think you are actually looking for the envy 17, if you are, then disregard the first answer, the 17 does not have a slice battery, only the 13,14,15. If you are looking at the 14, then disregard this answer, because you can only install two hard drives on the 17 (either way you lose I guess...). From what I've seen, it is easy to install the second hard drive, the location is easily accessible, I think it's next to the first hard drive.

    3) retailmenot usually has some good ones, and I'd see if you can get hooked in to the EPP or student discounts somehow as well, cause thats the only thing that stacks with a coupon. Also, I've had luck sometimes just calling, sometimes the customer service people have coupons only they can enter ;)

Pertaining to the Envy 17" 2nd HDD slot. Keep in mind that if you order the Laptop with only 1 HDD inside of it then you will have to pay some extra cash to receive the Hardware Kit (cable/caddy) to be able to utilize the 2nd slot. I think they told me the other day it was around $70-$80 from HP.

I found this out the hard way... apparently holding off on SSD from HP to buy a more reasonably priced one can screw you over not knowing about the Hardware Kit they take out if the 2nd bay is to be empty upon shipment.

There is a cheaper option from a third party supplier too. It's well discussed in the annals of the Envy threads.

It's quite tedious to install the mSATA SSD yourself. The config w/o the mSATA SSD do not come with the SSD bracket and even if ordered would be uncertain if it works.

So if you want the mSATA SSD, do yourself a favour, order the SSD together.

    thats what i thought...

but will i really feel the ssd benefit with that config ( currently 80gb ssd + 500gb hdd ) ? or should i go with an ssd only type

Question is how much space do you need?

If you need >100GB of space, get the 80GB+500GB combo
Otherwise, order with the cheapest HDD and replace with you own aftermarket 2.5" SSD.

    Samsung 830
    Samsung 470
    Crucial M4
    Intel 320 series

All of these are considered to be better than the sandforce crap.

Having just purchased a new Envy 14 with the slice battery included, I can confirm that IS the correct battery for that Envy.
