The reason my notebook was freezing was because on startup was because of Microsoft office Groove 2007. After i uninstalled it started working normal

Can those of you with Linux units post how much free space was available out of the box? If you got the $499 model, do any of docs specify whether the 1 gz chips is the 3.5 or 5 watt model?

The 4gb flash unit looks great if the 1gz proc and ssd equal significant battery and heat savings. Otherwise, I'd swap an 8gb ssd into the $549 model.

Thanks very much for your feedback. I tend to go for a larger screen, but this one might actually fit in a hotel safe.

That all sounds very promising as I will use the laptop primarily for vacation anyway. Nevertheless for $820 I can get a decent X60 refurbished one as well...

I had to wait 3 weeks for my $499 Mini-Note to arrive, but arrive it did on Friday, and I spent the better part of Friday evening and Saturday fussing with it.

SuSE 10 looks pretty slick, but how could HP rush it out the door without even getting the onboard wifi to work? But since I am far more accustomed to Debian variants, I figured on installing Kubuntu 8.04.

I did not have a USB CDROM drive but thought I'd save some money by making a bootable USB stick instead. And it worked great on my Pavilion, but not here. So then I went out and got a $35 USB->IDE/SATA converter cable which I had been wanting to buy anyhow. Hooked it up to my Plextor SATA drive, got as far as the Boot: prompt, then the installer would complain about being unable to mount /. My guess is that the installer lacked the correct SATA driver. So I rushed back to the store for a bargain-basement used IDE CD drive, but it was dead (it cost $1). Tried to set up a network install with the aid of another Kubuntu box I had sitting around that wasn't happening either, and I puzzled over this for awhile before realizing that the CD installer no longer includes the network install support, but the DVD does. 3-1/2 hours later, with the DVD downloaded, network install worked just fine.

From there, I had no functioning GUI, but I'm pretty used to setting up X and the tips I found online worked fine: Had to install Via's video driver and fuss with the Xorg.conf file. I might have spared myself the second part if I had simply copied it from the working SuSE install, but oh well.

Wifi took me longer because I had never before set up a "G" connection with WPA under Linux. But in the end, I found someone's 6-step setup guide, and what do you know, it worked.

LCD looks great: Bright, crisp and lots of resolution, but it's TINY. The glossy window over the screen seems tolerable. Keyboard and trackpad are decent considering their size. Looks-wise, very nice once you remove the stickers. Not as nicely finished as a MacBook Air, but pretty attractive in it's own right.

With Kubuntu 8.04 installed and tuned and wifi and other goodies all working as they should, Mini-Note feels like the bargain HP promised but didn't quite deliver with the stock SuSE Linux configuration.

If it was $399 I'd buy one. Would not pay $500 plus with the current cpu, gpu, and memory configs..
It is a decent beginning that needs to be improved upon for value/performance.

Guys, stop dumping on the 2133 just because it's not your cup of tea! It ain't mine either (the C7), and I will wait for the next generation but this thread is helping out existing owners so let's stay on topic.

Someone needs to fix the title now to be like 'HP 2133 Owners Lounge' :p

Sigh, some people really don't get it. Don't spam the thread with posts like "Oh, I could have gotten the MSI". Can you get that right NOW? If you can't then you don't have a point.

I just reinstalled Kubuntu 8.04 following the Ubuntu laptop testing team wiki for installation, and it works beautifully:

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/HP2133

I'd love to have all of this PLUS 5+ hour battery life with the standard 3-cell battery, and enough graphics and CPU power to handle OpenGL screen savers effortlessly, but at what cost? Mini-Note's screen and keyboard are pretty good, and I don't want to cut corners there.
