hey everyone! i got my new hitachi 200gb 7200rpm hard drive which will replace my current 120gb 5400rpm hard drive in my dv9500.

I also got acronis true image and installed. I currently have the 200gb hard drive inside an external enclosure so i can copy the contents and then replace the hard drive in my machine.

Since ia have never done this i dont want to screw up... if someone can help me out and show me how to "mirror" or make an exact copy of the current hard drive into my new hard drive that would really help me out!

    Please help! :)

Aronis is very straightforward. I also used it for the first time 2 nights ago. Just follow the directions they give you and you can customize the size of the partitions if you choose to and then just copy it over via USB - very very simple. Then just turn everything off and let the HDDs cool for 10 minutes or so and swap them out.

i've been looking around the software and there are two options that make sense: disk cloning (which i tried and after reboot nothing happened, the external drive was not cloned and second "backup the entire hard drive" which looks like the right thing too but once its done all that is left is a single 30gb file in the external hard drive, The file's format is *.tib any ideas? is there something i can do with this "tib" file?

Hmmm, I did the disk cloning and it worked perfectly. I'd try reinstalling acronis 11 (or 10 if you can find it), and try again.

will disk cloning delete my current "c" drive? or will it remain untouched? the reason im asking is in case a dont feel likeswitching the hard drives right that moment and want to use the computer a few days and then do the switch when i have more free time.

thanks DMAN, ill give it another try!

right click and view the size 120gb or 200gb.. But it should assign a differnt letter automatically so thats weird if it dosnt.. ive never heard of that before.
