    hard disk cannot detect

    model: compaq presario v3617tu
    OS : windows XP pro
    hard disk : 80gig SATA


    error: cannot detect hard disk while i am installing windows XP/win 2k

    i always get this error when i try to reformat the hard drive, though in windows vista there is no problem, but i want windows xp. i checked the website for my laptop model, there is no bios section for this fixed, even storage utilities for this fix, can anyone advise or has any fix on this, thanks.

    if you use the retail copy of XP/2k, you need to integrate the SATA drivers, otherwise the SATA HDD can't be recognized.

    or try updating your bios so u can enable the option to change the HDD to IDE..that way the installer can detect your HD.
