Hey Everyone, While I wait for my laptop to come in, I wanted to purchase a 2nd hard drive to store all my documents. The laptop I have coming is a DV8000T. The current HD is a 100gig 5400. So what are some hard drives you recomend?? actually what I plan to do is swap out the 100gig 5400 hard drive into the 2nd slot and purchase one that is faster for the main HD. So i need recomendations... also sorry for a newbie question but do the 2 hard drives have to be identicle? I notice on all the HP laptop they are always 2 identicle drives. Thanks.

If you don't need a lot of space on the main partition, the 60GB Hitachi 7200RPM drive seems like a good choice.

theres SATA versions and PATA (IDE) Ones. Usually the PATA ones are a little cheaper than SATA harddrives

He can't choose based on price but on what interface he has on his upcoming notebook , ATA133 ( IDE ) or ATA150 ( SATA ) .

The 7K60 or 7K100 are a good choise even at 60GB size . A good option is to put the windows dir on the faster new drive and the pagefile and big media files on the 2nd drive bigger slower drive .

If you are refering to doing a clean install of Windows you will need the XP cd. If you did not order one with your notebook I think you can buy one from HP. If you burn off the recovery CDs it will only restore your notebook to its original factory state bloatware and all.
