i have just had my laptop in for repair. and got it back today so i was all smiles this morning . now i have got home from work and its still not working .

i reported that it was getting extremly hot during encoding and ivi to dvd and that the hdmi gave an instant blue screen when conected.

so i opened my laptop switched it on and read the paperwork while it booted up .
    they have
    replaced mother board
    heat sink replacement
    fan replacement
    bios upgrade

ok laptop booted up so plugged in hdmi cable and ....... yes the blue screen of death came on instantly again .

anyone else have any probs with this problem
    my laptop is i dv9820ea

Are you sure that the HDMI cable is not defective or what you are plugging it into is not defective?

If the problem occurs when the cable is plugged in but nothing plugged to the other end of the cable, the cable is defective.\

Possibly you have a friend with a PS3 or Xbox that you could try with your HDMI cable and TV to make sure they are working as they should.

Ummm, do you actually get a "blue screen of death", the computer locks up, etc., or just a solid blue screen. You do know that you need to go into the graphics control panel and select that you want to output on HDMI.

Right click on the desktop and select the Nvidia Control Panel. Select the "Set up multiple displays" option and you should see your HDMI connection there to select. I don't have my laptop currently connected via HDMI so I cannot see the selection. The HDMI selection will only be displayed if it is actually hooked up to a TV or monitor.

It's time to do some research on your particular LCD TV. At least you know that the problem is not with your notebook.

On my 56" Samsung DLP TV there is a NOTE on the HDMI connector description page which says: "Using Your TV as a Computer (PC) Display" - "You cannot connect this TV to a PC via HDMI/DVI".

Well I did connect it and it does work but possibly there are TV's out there where it won't.

Possibly if you post your LCD TV type and Model number someone may be able to help. You might also try to contact the LCD TV manufacturer and ask them about your problem.

Before you blame shoddy repair, was it working *before* you sent it?

I agree with posters above - it seems like its a TV issue as the chipsets that handle HDMI were notoriously unregulated, there were specs, but the implementation of the specs was loose...

no it wasnt working before i sent it in . that is why it went in . and after speaking to tech support they also agree that there seems to be a problem and it needs to go back in to get looked at so to me i would say it is a bit shoddy they never tested it

never figured it out but toshiba say that the laptop is compatible . even adviced me to take laptop to store and try conect it on same model tv in store see if there is a problem but as dvd player works fine through hdmi they doubt its the hdmi port on tv .

hp however was on the phone about 15 mins with me trying different ways to fix error . the latest idea was to update my video card drivers . i said fine ok but that will take about 10 mins to download so he said he would ring back in 10 mins .
of course he never did and the updated drivers didnt help either.

so i guess im stuffed i cant figure it out
    anyone any ideas at all
