i experienced another problem with my DV5 , if u really need those recovery dvds , install windows again from the harddisk ( c drive will be formated ) and just after the install try to do the recovery dvds again .

    2 possiblities.

your media (discs) are of a bad batch, what brand?

your machine is over bloated, or being over worked just enough to cause a bad burn, and the disc check is catching errors as a result. as a rule, i don't do anything whilst burning a dvd. the problem with all the hp bloat is that instead of being an application that you can start and stop, it's 15 stupid little services in the background that A. you don't need to have running until you start the associated application, and B. you can't as easily (by far) turn off and on.

What have you installed onto the HDX, or did you just immediately uncrate and try to make the recovery discs and had problems?

it does take a awfully long time, but that sounds a bit much.

so i take it you did install some things?

why not just order the ultimate version discs for like 20.00 or whatever they cost now, and just proceed with fresh install, instead of the bloat. I agree your discs are not sounding like the problem. I use alot of sony media and have had no problems.

I am not sure if anything changed lately but the last time I checked HP does not support making recovery disks on a DVD-R only DVD+R was supported.

I came to know about the fact when I tried to burn it on my DVD+RW. This is what I did to work around. I got a trial version of Virtual CD from http://www.virtualcd-online.com/ and made an iso images instead of writing the to DVD. I later used by burner to burn the iso to my DVD+RWs.

how long have you been up and running? a defrag may be all that's holding you back... should be step one when disc writing problems arise IMO, and I have thrown away more coasters than most people have burned discs. :)

alright ...i must be wrong then but i suggest you can still use the work around I suggested in my previous post ( create an iso instead of burning DVD directly and then use your trusted burning software and a RW media that way you can save avoid spoiling DVDs even if it fails)

Kill any running processes you dont need before burning.

It could be the type, or manufacturer of the disk as well.

As for myself, I never cared if the burning process worked or not, for $20 or so I had HP ship me a set.
