So I have had my dv9500t for about a week now and I was using my headphones with it yesterday when I noticed a high pitched sound coming from the headphones. It wasn't really loud but it was there, most noticeable at low volumes. I tried two other headphones and they were all the same...

Any ideas? Could it be a driver issues, or possibly the whole core 2 high pitched issue?

I'd rather not have to call HP on this, but obviously something like this is important and I don't want a laptop with non working headphone ports.

Could it be a ground loop interfering? Could you try plugging the AC adapter into a different outlet, or better yet, at a different location completetly?

I tried that... I used the laptop at school with one set of headphones then I tried it at home with two different sets.. Same thing. Though I do think that it was a bit quieter at my house.

Very strange. You could also definitely reinstall the sound driver, it may or may not help. I know you said you didn't want to contact HP, and I can't blame you, but it may be worth giving them a ring, just to see what they would say about it. Also, I forgot to ask previously, but does it happen while running off of just the battery?

Haven't tried it with just the battery, but something worth checking out, though it would be no less annoying if it didn't happen on the battery, considering I'll have the laptop plugged in most of the time.

Very true, but if the sound stops when you unplug the AC adapter, then it may be a faulty adapter. I would urge you to contact HP at that point.

Well I went home and tried it out a bit more... It seems to be intermittent cuz when I tried it I couldn't hear the buzz anymore, or it was very faint. When I had the adapter plugged-in it was very faint but I couldn't hear it when it was running on battery... I'll try playing around with it some more and post again.

Okay lemme reopen this up... I am still having this problem.. I talked to HP via web chat and they had me try all kinds of crap no of which worked.. I've tried reinstalling Vista, reinstalling drivers, getting a new power adapter and on and on... Does anyone else have a problem where when they plug in headphones (or speakers) to the audio out(headphone jack) they get a loud buzzing noise? I don't have the problem with the speakers just the audio port.... I would hate to have to send the laptop in because i use it all the time... But if I have to...

you could try do a hard reset which basically grounds all the power out of the system. you do this by unpugging and taking out the battery and then holding down the power button for about a minute and then try it again.

bump. I have the similar issue. riddle me this: when you have the speakers or whatever going, and the noise is present, move the mouse down to the time and other icons, does it change the noise frequency? I am thinking that it is processor related. I'm going to attempt reinstalling the conexant audio driver.

Does anybody else have any suggestions or similar issues?
