    Hi,

    I have a DV3Z with a slot-load DVD drive.

I somehow messed up my Windows 7 installation and get a BSOD every time I try to boot into Win7 or even safe mode from the hard drive.

However, what I can NOT figure out is how to EJECT the disc in the drive.

I can get to a command prompt via the Startup Repair advanced options, but there doesn't appear to be a command to eject in the disc.

Is there a keyboard combination I can press at power on to eject the disc?

    thanks!

I assume simply pushing the button doesn't work?

I just tried on mine, and I can press the button when I first turn the laptop on and it will pop the drive open.. Just an idea.

I guess worse case scenario would be to pull the drive and dismantle it...

    Hi,

at least on the slot load drive that HP put into my DV3Z, I do not see a button or hole to press anywhere...

i'm on the phone with HP support right now.

ok....hp told me there is no way to remove the disc without booting into an operating system that can perform an eject. ugh.

at this point I think I need to go buy a USB flash drive and install a bootable OS on it and boot to that... what a hassle.

Are you able to launch Explorer from the command prompt (just type explorer.exe)? Maybe open c-drive with command "explorer c:", then you can back up one step to the My Computer and eject the optical drive.
